Taking the hint from Viscount, ( see Wideroe thread), I started a new thread here. I can agree with frustration as a word to use, but actually I do not see the need to limit the discussion to Trams. In my nearest big city, Nantes, there are several tram lines. None run to the airport because the plan was to move the airport and put in a train service. That whole new airport plan has been scrapped. There is a disused rail line which passes so close to the terminal it might as well just cut through it, so perhaps that has a future now. Anyway back to my main thing. In Nantes there are also busways. Comfortable easy board buses, which look a bit like trams, run on dedicated lanes with limited stops, several at "park and ride" stations, and priority signalling at junctions. Just like trams. This gives a very good rapid service into the city and in terms of infrastructure is half the cost of a tramway. I would imagine other cities in the word have the same system. Cities like Liverpool could well copy that idea, and in the frenzy for everything green right now, that mood should be profited from.
