The three negative posters here - bustcapl, Scottie Dog, evertongary - I challenge you to name a charity of your choice and commit to donate £20 to that charity if one of the named services starts within 2 years. I will match your commitment if no service starts. You will note that I did in fact start by saying that "I feel that there has to be a Lufthansa service coming" although I did then say that "I won't believe it until I see the service on sale". That does not say that I'm being negative rather that I m being realistic. I recall Manchester saying for many years that Lufthansa would be starting services - this was back in the '60s - and yes it did come true but not as soon as many had expected. Hold the faith. Many UK airports are going through a downturn at the moment, but the tide will turn. On a more positive note "Happy Christmas" to one and all.

I feel that airports in general need to be rather more realistic about the future, Scottie Dog.
A number of airports are reaching their licensed caps - Schiphol for example - and requests for increases are no longer automatically granted. Luton and Bristol are also reaching their caps. Heathrow runway 3 is probably less likely this week than last.
The suspension of MAX production will curtail global growth for a number of years.
The next few years will be interesting but ever increasing passenger numbers should not be a given - and rightly so.
Happy Christmas to you too and a prosperous New Year.

Reading a article from the Echo on line today and it said the Lufthansa route could be up to 2 years away yet so not sure why the announcement now?
All very confusing, just hope it happens sooner than later.

Which takes us nicely back full circle. 1) the article is typical echo rubbish 2) management at Liverpool shouldn’t make statements about what might happen.
The whole thing is a bit cringe really.

Time will tell, wouldn't be at all surprised if the Echo left out huge chunks to make it more dynamic.

I suspect that the “statement” was more an answer to a direct question asked by someone at the event. Sometimes these things are said without any particular expectation that they will end up reported chapter and verse.
