Yes, it is true. Was going to be 300 to be parked, now doubled to 600. Domestic flying to be reduced by 70%, and international around 85%. They have already sent 24 widebodies to Marana, a mixture of 767-300ER's, 767-400's, 777-200LR's, A333-200 and A330-300's. Birmingham, Alabama also has 24 widebodies parked along with several MD88's and MD90's. The widebodies include the 767-300ER, 767-400, 777-200ER, A330-200, A330-300 and A330-900. Blytheville, Arkansas has 4 A350-900s parked. The widebodies at Birmingham and Blytheville will be for short term parking, those at Marana will be for longer term. Apparently, Atlanta runway 10/28 will be used for parking aircraft. This is the separate southside runway furthest away from the Renaissance Hotel. I go back to work tomorrow and will find out more details. I believe that some of the MD88 and MD90 fleets will fly a little longer. One of the problems is the shear bulk of pilots from those fleets who need to be retrained on other fleets. They simply don't have enough training facilities / simulators / training staff to handle such an influx at once. So far, there have been no lay-offs, but that simply has to happen. They are offering unpaid leave, and the amount of layoffs will I am sure be based on how many people take unpaid leave. I am planning on taking a month of unpaid leave, maybe 6 weeks. With over 30 year at Northwest and Delta, I am certainly high enough on the seniority list to not be laid off. But, who knows if there will be further cutbacks. Despite the child in the White House saying that it will all be over before too long, common sense is that it will be a long time before people return to flying, even assuming the pandemic trails off over the next several months, and people still have jobs and money. I just wish he would just STFU, he hasn't got a clue.
