Just think if Easy hadn't moved flts 30 miles down the road it could have been like that all the time and LJLA could have expanded, just a thought, stay safe everyone.

While not wanting to add more gloom to a dire situation. I suspect with more aviation consolidation in sight,Liverpool and other smaller airports, will get the short end of the stick with regard restored services. Manchester will increase it's stranglehold on North West aviation

dalten1 Perhaps if EasyJet had taken aircraft OUT of Liverpool to Manchester you may have a case, however they have removed them from other bases and put them into Liverpool. The doom mongering posts are unwelcome at the best of times and not needed now with people’s jobs at risk. I doubt EasyJet would give up Liverpool and let Ryanair take over

And when the time comes again we should support the carriers which operate from Liverpool, show support for this airport.

EasyJet should be commended for sticking with Liverpool. It was their second hub after Luton. Any one with a memory will remember us having 7 RyanAir aircraft based, then FlyBe moved in with a fanfare and gradually they both moved all the routes
30 miles down the M56.

"Airbus A346" I'm surprised at you joining the 'knockers' and with complete mis-information. Ryanair maintain 3 overnight based aircraft and non-based aircraft likely amount to an average of an additional 2 aircraft per day, maybe closer to 3 more in summer. One thing is certain, they have not moved ALL their routes as you currently state. Perhaps "8miles27" can come to my assistance here, but I suspect that actually Ryanair last summer served more destinations from John Lennon than easyJet.
BOTH easyJet and Ryanair have stuck with Liverpool, although both have moved routes to Manchester and expanded there greatly, both have also introduced new routes from Liverpool in the same period. Flybe ceased certain routes eg Belfast City, Edinburgh and Newquay but did not move them across to Manchester as they were operated from there already before the Liverpool services.

Viscount re. RyanAir 3 based and 2 additional makes 5 at one point we had 7 or 8 based. OK perhaps I generalized O'Leary moved the most profitable routes down the M56 not ALL. FlyBe moved out virtually lock stock and barrel .

Flybe moved out of Manchester lock stock and barrel too last month.
I'm not going to waste time to look it up, but I suspect that 10 years or so ago easyJet had 10 overnight based in summer, then down to 7, now back up again to 8. It always appears that Ryanair have contracted their services from JLA more than they have done because so many of their routes are now flown by non-overnight based aircraft, while all but two rotations a week by easyJet are with their overnight based aircraft. While it may be a public pastime to 'knock Ryanair', the airline does bring an amazing number of passengers through JLA each year and from a wider spread of destinations. Both operators, along with Wizz, Blue Air, Lauda, Wideroe and in the past few weeks Loganair need our positive support once a semblance of normality returns, not historical sniping.

May be I am letting my current experience with RyanAir cloud my judgement. I was due to fly to Sofia at the end of May. The Bulgarian borders are closed and the Liverpool to Sofia flights terminated. Can I get a refund NO just being offered a no surcharge flight change to October with grossly inflated fares. No guarantee the route will be reinstated in October assuming it's safe to travel. A RyanAir 'knocker' ? Yes - I just want my refund.

The magnitude of the earthquake that has hit commercial aviation is incalculable. Which airline will do which route in the future is beside the point. Will easyJet and Ryanair both survive to fly again? The LoCo model will change out of all recognition,if it survives at all. This godawful virus is an existential threat to the airport itself.

Ryanair cancelled my flight from Sofia to Liverpool on 24th March. They e-mailed me with a link for a full refund.
I requested the refund and it was in my account within 5 days.

As you are apparently a new member, might I put my comments into context. I was not referring to EasyJet alone. There could well be a contraction within aviation as a whole. I am long in the tooth and direct you to what happened at Liverpool in the 70's,80's and 90's etc. Whenever something major happens, Liverpool tends to catch a chill. I hope to be proved wrong but am not holding my breath. Regarding easyJet & Ryanair. Possible regular travellers can't rely on either to provide consistent services year after year. Services are started, stopped and replaced year after year. I am lucky to have Gatwick nearby, where I have been able to use the same service year after year for my winter escape. Sorry for such a protracted response. No illwill intended.
