Can anyone remember the name of the restaurant at the airport, if indeed it ever had one?
Thinking particularly of the '70s when they had 'fine dining' and dinner dances.
Thanks

Maverick,
I have found an advert for the Airport restaurant in a Daily Post supplement on the Airport dated 25th November 1981 at which time it was known as the Concorde Suite.
My recollection is that during the 1970s it was just known as the Airport Restaurant.

In the early 1970s there was the Blenheim Lounge and the Viscount Restaurant on either side of the Cocktail Lounge which was at the top of the stairs. I took a former girlfriend to a couple of dinner dances in the restaurant.

Yes, agree with 'Donboy'. I've been juggling in my mind, Dakota, Comet, Viscount and Viking and trying to find confirmation for several days now, but totally agree that it was the Blenheim Lounge. It was the Concorde Suite by Winter 81/82 as recorded in FolA's 09/27 edition 1, as their member's Cinema Club met there monthly. I also the recall the tartan curtain's around the central bar upstairs in the days of Scottish & Newcastle (I think), which would be around 1977. Why I should particularly recall those is a question I just can't answer!

I was speaking to a family friend yesterday who had her wedding reception in the function room at the old airport in the late ‘60s. She couldn’t recall the room having a name.
Having said that they were distracted because they ended up having to share the room with the Lord Mayor of Liverpool who was hosting a function for the Lord Mayor of somewhere in Cornwall as there had been a screw up over room bookings! One of the Mayor’s guests was then MP and city legend Bessie Braddock who did at least go over and wish the bride and groom well!

When courting my now wife of 54 years, we went to the Airport restaurant for their Dinner Dances on numerous occasions. I was trying to impress her at the time. Memory has eluded both of us as we cannot recall the restaurant having a name. I am talking about the early 1960,s.
We have a special regard for the restaurant as, after we eloped, we went to Jersey on honeymoon. The aircraft, Cambrian Viscount I seem to recall, was delayed by fog in Jersey so we had a coffee in the restaurant while we waited. The Hotel/restaurant Manager strolled past and recognised us as we had become regular customers. After chatting with him we booked the restaurant for when we returned from Honeymoon and, whilst in Jersey, sent invitations to all our family. They joined us at the airport when we arrived home and we believe it went a long way to alleviating the shock of our having eloped. Why elope? Well, we couldn’t face the hassle of wedding arrangements and we have never regretted it. Fond memories of the old airport.
