Silly bugger.
Fancy getting to be able to pilot a turbo-prop single and still not know what 'PPR' means.
Even sillier, as if he had let his eyes on GoggleEarth slip a little southwards, he would have found Caernarfon/Llandrog, equally as close to the beach (albeit mostly a pebbly one) and a far more relaxed place.
Some years ago, when I used to frequent Caernarfon at weekends several times a year, a guy used to come in on a sunny Sunday lunch-time from Barton in his Jodel. Take out his towel from a compartment behind the cockpit and walk off down to the beach for a swim and was well known to the locals. Thinking about it, if the PC-12 pilot had gone in for a dip off Cymyran Beach (the long sandy one at RAF Valley), they may well have had to call out the Coastguard from Caernarfon to rescue him as it has a reputation for wicked undertows and currents.

Would be interesting to see the CAA report and how he gets dealt with etc.One report says he was told to wait until airfield opened the next day to depart but ignored that advice also...
