This latest set of scanned and restored slides from July 1984 is dedicated to the striking Sailors of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, bless them all. Also four new aircraft types, and on Friday 13th July Genair suddenly went bust and G-BKIE (which appear in several photos) was impounded. Actually a very tall and young female lawyer arrived unannounced to seize the aircraft, and I evicted her from the Apron for not having an airport security pass. She was not at all amused (incandescent really) when my friendly solicitor from Blackpool Council arrived to help me, and we impounded the aircraft for unpaid airport fees. Oh, and mine's a 'Triple Whiskey'! Great memories , keep posting , the EMB-110 SE-INK was one of a number of different Scandinavian visitors used fly in offshore workers on a weekly basis in connection with the construction of the Morecambe Bay Gas Field.

Great memories , thanks for posting , look forward to many more. Jetranger G-CPTS a regular visitor , had a trait of prior to departing the airfield pointing the airframe towards the spectators area in the hover and flashing his landing light towards a member of his family at the fence line.

Next lot is through August and in to early September 1984. I was on holiday for part of this period, so missed a few. Also I have previously posted some of the more interesting visitors, so I've just included a handful of alternative angles here. And at the end of this batch, I've included a complete batch of aerial views from an earlier date. But first I'm singling out one Bell Jetranger for a special mention, it has carried six different UK registrations - G-BBFB, G-CJHI, G-CORC, G-SCOO, G-JBHH, and G-ETUS - is this a record? G-CJHI (G-BBFB), Blackpool, 24 Aug 84 by Philip Pain, on Flickr D-BAKA, Blackpool, 31 Aug 84 (2) by Philip Pain, on Flickr D-BAKA, Blackpool, 31 Aug 84 (4) by Philip Pain, on Flickr D-EDCA, Blackpool, 4 Sept 84 w by Philip Pain, on Flickr EI-BOD, Blackpool, 10 Aug 84 w by Philip Pain, on Flickr G-AFEL, Blackpool, 23 Aug 84 by Philip Pain, on Flickr G-AOHT, Blackpool, 25 Aug 84 (4) by Philip Pain, on Flickr G-APEK, Dreadnaught, Blackpool, 25 Aug 84 (1) by Philip Pain, on Flickr G-APEK, Dreadnaught, Blackpool, 25 Aug 84 (2) by Philip Pain, on Flickr G-APET, Blackpool, 25 Aug 84 (4) by Philip Pain, on Flickr G-AYPI, Blackpool, 10 Aug 84 w by Philip Pain, on Flickr G-BBKJ, Blackpool, 30 Aug 84 w by Philip Pain, on Flickr G-BEMD, Vaux Aviation Usworth, Blackpool, 30 Aug 84 by Philip Pain, on Flickr G-BETV, Tenneco Aviation Luton, Blackpool, 3 Sept 84 w by Philip Pain, on Flickr G-BFTR, Air Hanson, Blackpool, 22 Aug 84 w by Philip Pain, on Flickr G-BHVZ, Blackpool, 26 Aug 84 by Philip Pain, on Flickr G-BLGB, G-BEJP, LN-KCR, HZ-MAA, Blackpool, 24 Aug 84 by Philip Pain, on Flickr G-BXYZ, Colt Car Company, Blackpool, 24 Aug 84 by Philip Pain, on Flickr HB-GFF, Blackpool, 31 Aug 84 (2) w by Philip Pain, on Flickr HZ-MAA, Blackpool, 24 Aug 84 by Philip Pain, on Flickr LN-KCR, Scanex, Blackpool, 24 Aug 84 (1) by Philip Pain, on Flickr LN-KCR, Scanex, Blackpool, 24 Aug 84 (2) by Philip Pain, on Flickr LN-BNT, Blackpool, 3 Sept 84 (1) by Philip Pain, on Flickr N88YA (42-24133, G-BMCR), Blackpool, 20 Aug 84 (1) by Philip Pain, on Flickr N88YA (42-24133, G-BMCR), Blackpool, 20 Aug 84 (2) by Philip Pain, on Flickr OY-BZW, Blackpool, 4 Sept 84 (2) by Philip Pain, on Flickr OY-BZW, Blackpool, 4 Sept 84 (3) by Philip Pain, on Flickr OY-BZW, Blackpool, 4 Sept 84 (4) by Philip Pain, on Flickr OY-BZW, Blackpool, 4 Sept 84 (5) by Philip Pain, on Flickr XV182, LTW, Falcons, Blackpool, 23 Aug 84 by Philip Pain, on Flickr XV182, XV293, LTW, Blackpool, 23 Aug 84 (2) by Philip Pain, on Flickr XV293, LTW, Blackpool, 23 Aug 84 by Philip Pain, on Flickr XV401, B, maybe, 228 OCU Coningsby, Blackpool, 21 Aug 84 by Philip Pain, on Flickr XV720, 22 Sqdn, Blackpool, 22 Aug 84 (1) by Philip Pain, on Flickr XV720, 22 Sqdn, Blackpool, 22 Aug 84 (2) by Philip Pain, on Flickr Earlier in 1984, on 28th March, we were invited on an aerial visit to the Gas Rigs, and a general sightseeing tour in Spacegrand's Twin Otter G-BGZP. But as I have already flown in it to see the delights of Barrow, Heysham, and Fleetwood I can't think of any reason at all why I would want a repeat flight over the blue lagoons and golden beaches of the Caribbean?? More to follow ...........

Just one scanned and restored slide, which I came across in my "Duds" box. It was the only image I had of this aircraft, so a difficult restoration job was attempted, taking a day and a half. First is the original, as scanned img903 G-AXFE, Blackpool, 8 Dec 83 w by Philip Pain, on Flickr G-AXFE, Blackpool, 8 Dec 83 by Philip Pain, on Flickr I have quite a few similar 'Duds' from various places, and why I kept them is a mystery because at the time there was no inkling that it might be possible one day to rescue them. Just shows.

Another lot from September 1984, with some nice weather. There was another 'airlift' to the Isle of Man, but I can't quite remember the reason, other than it involved Marks & Spencer. Also the Dauphin rig helicopters were re-branded with "Bond Helicopters" titles. Some other nice visitors, including the 'Clyde' survey aircraft, suitably modified, a Varga, and a Lynx from Penelope. 365C G-BFVV had returned from offshore due to a tech glitch when the floats inflated uncommanded one of the forward ones visible in the picture ....looks like a large golf ball. Didn't the HMS Penelope Lynx pick up Linda Nolan the pop singer and fly her into an event at Lytham or Blackpool , G-BFVW 365C was parked on the grass as we only had 2 original helipads at the Helicopter Terminal it got that busy we needed another, then ended up with a 3rd being laid.
The chap in the brown jacket in pic 11 of this batch , in front of the Viscount worked for a logistics company but was also a regular spotter who at the time I think mainly took cine film and stills .
Keep the photos coming 👍🚁

Thanks 'ikarus', and yes, I wondered about him.
Also, in quite a few of the photos there is a guy in a white coat standing 'airside' of the pedestrian gate by the Fire Station. He seemed to always be just watching, never a camera or a notebook.
I'm certain that the Penelope Lynx came to collect the Mayor of Blackpool for a trip out to the ship. Perhaps it did other trips around the same time?
Regarding the Rig helicopters, for the info of other Forum members, the initial 'construction phase' for the Gas Field saw much heavier and frequent traffic levels. Then, once the Field was up and running after a year or so, the daily traffic reduced to not much more than two flights a day.

Yes, the reduction was due to relocation of some of the service to Liverpool Airport to support the Liverpool Bay asset development. The service was brought back in mid/late 90's to Blackpool. It being unviable to operate two bases within such close proximity. Had the decision been different it could have been a disaster for Blackpool
