I saw a documentary on Ch 5 UK TV yesterday (Previously recorded) This article covers the same arguments. It seems the Titanic was on fire in a coal bunker before it even left the shipyard in Belfast, and apparently, this was not uncommon in coal ships of the day. Anyway the fire burned for days on end, way after it left Southampton on its maiden voyage, whilst the stokers tried to dig it out and feed the boilers with the burning coal. This perhaps was one of the reasons the Captain had the ship sailing so fast. The burnt bunker formed part of one of the bulkheads which subsequently collapsed effectively doubling the size of the next zone and leading to disater A good read:- medium.com/s/story/the-titanic-was-on-fire-for-days-before-the-iceberg-hit-94fa26471dfa
