EZY have today(17/8/20) announced the closure of bases at Stansted,Newcastle and Southend.Effective 1/9/20. How long will they maintain two bases within 25 miles in the North West? They, and their counterparts, are in a grim battle for survival.

The information regarding the imminent closure of 3 EasyJet bases has been around for a while. It certainly is no surprise given the reluctance of the public to travel by air, indeed with constraints on countries 'safe' to return home from ever increasing, the situation is going to get worse yet. With relaxations post 'lock-down' now being tightened, there is no 'post' Covid-19 era on the immediate horizon. With passengers leaving Britain for European destination in no certainty of the rules applying on their return, the outlook is bleak generally for the travel industry, including airlines and airports.
While being reminded of the uncomfortable fact that Liverpool and Manchester Airports are only 30 miles apart is unpalatable to some, it is fact nevertheless. We as a Merseyside based group, should be wholly behind supporting Liverpool Airport, rather reminding all of the fragility of the current situation in the aviation industry. These are difficult times, and I fear matters will not ease during this winter before, hopefully an improvement to a degree of 'normality'.
What started out to be a 'don't spread doom and gloom, because it is even more contagious than Covid-19' message, has ended up somewhat wallowing in that gloom.
Currently optimism may not be easy, but please as little pessimism as possible. We all need a little good news, as 'Silvercity' has reminded us.

Agreed Viscount. easyJet has conducted a full review of all its bases and has chosen to close a number - including 3 in the UK - on the basis of performance. Presumably both LPL and MAN had a better performance than those now closing. Wadoki's post strays from fact to the usual downbeat comment which is sadly common on Liverpool forums......perhaps an amendment would be helpful.
