My hope is that someone may be able to shed some light on this small triangular plaque that I found in the family archive. My wife's grandfather was the Olympic rower, coach and air racer, Hugh 'Jumbo' Edwards (HRA Edwards), and we have quite a few different air trophies and medallions as he was usually invited to compete in various air races. However, I am not entirely sure if there was a race organised for the opening of the airport? Any help is greatly appreciated. The forum is unable to upload my photo of the plaque as apparently the forum is 'out of space' (Error: This forum has exceeded its attachment space limit. Your file cannot be uploaded) - but the 'plaque' is dated 1933, with a biplane, and the height and width is about 6cm. The website link below shows a photo of a similar triangular one. www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=lot&sid=3018&lot=1402With thanks

A very interesting post. The forum filled the Proboards allowance of 'embeded' images in just a few weeks, back in 2009. To post a photograph is a slightly complex process of first uploading your image to a 'host' site such as 'Flickr', obtaining a unique code, then pasting that code on the 'reply' box on the forum. Unfortunately a number of 'image hosting sites' have either failed or now only host a very number of photos for free - which is why a number of older threads on NWAN are littered with 'Photobucket' logos over an image or small squares, where there were once images displayed. I have not seen the triangular plaque before, but am not surprised that there was one. I have a 1934 round badge distributed on the opening of the first Mersey road tunnel, when my father walked through it as a teenager (along with half the population of Liverpool). There was an Air Race on the day of Grand Opening and Air Display at Speke Airport on 1st July 1933. There are details on the thread: derbosoft.proboards.com/thread/130/liverpool-airport-airshows-images-restoredThe 1933 Display is covered on page 3 of the thread. When Gurl/GoogleDrive removed my images from view, somewhat oddly they left two displayed, initial posting having been previously removed by Photobucket - I have had an unfortunate history with my poor selection of photosite hosts. The aircraft depicted on the triangular plaque is likely a Hawker Fury, although Hawker produced a family of very similar aircraft in the 1930s including the Demon, Hart and the larger Audax.
