Completes the visiting aircraft and noteable airliner movements for November 2020.
OBSERVATIONS
Once again the aviation industry is a severely hit sector, as once travel is severely limited with a 'second wave' lock-down commencing on November 5th. This time many scheduled flights were being cancelled in advance of 'lock-down' due to many popular destinations being on the government's list of places that returning passengers would have to self-isolate for two weeks on return to the UK - so stifling demand for destinations such as the Spanish Costas and Islands during August, September and October.
While the Airport operated restricted opening hours during November, these usually permitted all anticipated in advance traffic to operate. By the end of the month the only scheduled flights left were the 'essential link' Loganair flights with the Isle of Man. Club flying ceased, although unlike March/April there were visiting aircraft calling at JLA every day, even if only the King Air 200 medical contract link from the Isle of Man. In March/April much interest for the local enthusiasts was provided by military aircraft on practise diversion and go-around training. Not so much this time, although the two German Air Force Globals early in the month provided quite a stir. Military helicopters have become rare in recent years, in November there was a Puma, Chinook and an Agusta A.109 - all appearing twice. The Irish Air Corps visited with CN.235 No. 253 (Fri 20th).
Football and Rugby team charters provided interest, although without fans the number of aircraft involved were limited. Noted were: Jota Aviation, Loganair, Blue Islands, Enter Air and TUI Netherlands using RJ-85, RJ-100, ATR-72, EMB-145 and Boeing 737/8 aircraft.
Of greatest interest were a number of freight charters. The Royal Air Maroc Boeing 767 (on 15th) and Antonov An-12 UR-11819 (26-27th) would have been outstanding highlights even in a 'normal' month. There were a few other freight charters as well to look for in the month's log.
However for those interested in executive jets, a very 'thin' month indeed. Having D-CAHO and D-CARO on the ground together (on 19th) made me have to double check when typing the lists, but otherwise nothing of real note. Just one civilian Global, one Challenger, one Legacy and no visiting Gulfstream or Falcons a disappointment after some reasonable summer months.
A diversion, for one reason or another in a 'normal' year usually occur at least once a month. In this rather odd year, the first diversion to be handled since March appeared on 7th with a KLM ERJ-190 from Amsterdam arriving due to low visibility at Leeds/Bradford.
ABBREVIATIONS AND FORMAT COMMENTS
All times are quoted as ‘local’ time. As the source material is in UTC all times are converted before use. However, there is always the chance of being one hour out, no matter how hard I try and avoid mistakes, especially in October and March, the months when BST/GMT changes over.
30/1357 shows that the aircraft stayed over midnight, departing on the date and time shown
f&t = from and to. Where the point of origin and destination are different, both locations are named separated by a - . Some use of standard IATA airfield abbreviations eg BHX - Birmingham; EMA - East Midlands Airport; DTV - Durham Tees Valley; DSA - Doncaster Sheffield Airport; LBA - Leeds-Bradford Airport; and more occasional DUB Dublin; MAN Manchester; BRS Bristol; CEG Chester; NCL Newcastle, GLA Glasgow and SEN Southend.
G/A refers to an aircraft performing an approach and go-around only, but did not touch down. t&g is 'touch and go' or 'roller' only, not a full stop landing. fv = first visit to LJLA, ff first flight. 'local' is a flight starting and ending at Liverpool, not landing elsewhere, n/s night stop, c/s Radio call-sign.
The registrations of aircraft operating on call-signs, especially RAF aircraft on Go-Around are not always 100% accurate. During daylight where a code and direction of Go-Around are given, this means that the registration was confirmed by Mk.1 eyeball (well, usually a digital image!).
Where an aircraft operated on call-sign, this is noted by official IATA 2-, or more usually ICAO 3-letter abbreviation. If there is no call-sign, then the aircraft operated using the registration. Where there is just one call-sign, the same flight number/call-sign was used both in- and out- bound.
In the final column the operator is that translated from the call-sign designator, which in some cases is not the same as the registered owner. This is often the case for GMA Gama Aviation, FLJ Flairjet, ORT Ortac AOC Ltd and VCG Catreus AOC Ltd call-signs.
'Football related', 'team chtr', 'for the match' or similar comments are generally determined by the times and point of origin/destination and is informed guesswork, not absolute known fact. Very difficult to be certain which aircraft, especially biz-jets, bring fans and which are co-incidence!
Likewise 'freight i/b' or 'freight o/b' comment is an assumption based on aircraft type, point of origin/destination, flight numbers etc - only rarely is the direction freight is being carried, confirmed by eyeball.
The 'S', eg S14, refers to the apron stand that the biz-jet was parked on.
The source material does not name non-registered airfield sites, these are covered by the blanket term ‘private site’. Nor does it identify diverted flights or the reason for the diversion, however these can usually be worked out from other sources.
'WX' = literally 'weather out' conditions below minima visibility or above acceptable wind speed/direction, 'Dvt' = diverted in, 'chtr' = charter flight, Pax = passengers, Del = delivery, Arr = arrived, Dep = departed, pvt = private (location), n/s night stopped.
I do my best to check full type designations, however an occasional one may not be absolutely name and mark accurate. Spotted an error, typing slip, or have further details to add, do let me know by PM or place a post on this thread.
CREDIT & THANKS
Should any details be used and repeated elsewhere, due credit to 'LJLA and NWAN forum' is expected. This post should NEVER be 'copy and pasted' and repeated in full or in part elsewhere on the internet. Hyper-linking this thread onto other sites, again with due credit, or printing-out for personal use does not require specific permission, although I would like to know if it is hyper-linked in full to another site.
Finally and very importantly, my very many thanks for Liverpool John Lennon Airport in permitting access to records to extract these visitor movements - so allowing our complete monthly records since 1956 to continue unbroken. Also to the many who provide information and confirmation of detail on the nwan 'daily threads'.
