Now that title should make us oldies sit up, to younger ones its history I guess. Anyway was doing lockdown loft clearing again yesterday and I came across a fascinating brochure for BUAF. I have attached photos for interest. Dated 1967 and for the younger members this was a time when the utterly inept Labour Government had basically bankrupted the country and I think the IMF were called in to bail us out. As such currency controls were put in place and the maximum that you could take out of the country was ( I think ) £50. But just look at the prices for these flights, pity they were not still going. Enjoy the Nostalgia, and if anyone has some photos of the Biffos and Carvairs please add them. 1967, the year of my one and only flight in a Carvair. Here we are on arrival at Ostend from Southend (box brownie camera photo) G-ASKG (42-72277), Channel Bridge, Ostend from Southend, 30 March 67 fw by Philip Pain, on Flickr What your brochure doesn't mention, is that any spare seats on the Carvair (not all cars had passengers) were sold at 'bucket' prices to joe public. With a student discount I think I got the flight for 22 shillings return (old money). I've previously mentioned that Carvair flight as my worst passenger experience ever - here is the page from your brochure, with the pax compartment ringed in red. Compare the size of the compartment with the size of the car in front - would you attempt to get 22 people in that car! BUAF could, and the brochure photo of the happy family seated in the Carvair, it is highly misleading as it is the very back row, and they must have taken all the other seats out to make room for the photographer!
