My first time at an airport since the second week in March 2020, quite certainly the longest gap in some 60 years of recording reggies! Had to make a trip for an appointment in Fuengirola, to the west of Malaga from home (which is to the East of Malaga in the Axarquia region), so passing the airport twice. Certainly airliner traffic somewhat slower than in June 2019, but actually more than I expected to see. The number of biz-jets on the move was equal to, or possibly greater than for a comparable period two years ago, which was a surprise. With aircraft landing from inland, took up my regular position on the raised field between the runway ends. No other photographers, but a couple of families came and went. No problem accessing from the roundabout. Much was made in press here around near two years ago that the finance was in place to directly commence connecting the Terminals and the motorway passing inland of the airport. I reckon the work during the alterations could well block access to the excellent morning photography location, but there was no sign of any work commencing. Although the Museum is open late on a Tuesday, I did not call-in to use the views over the GA/executive apron at the coastal end of the airfield. The afternoon photography parking location over on the Churriana side overlooking the end of the military apron has been double chained-off, but parking is possible on the straight road down to the bend, and access along the path on foot is no problem. However the Avocado orchard between the path and the military apron has grown somewhat and now makes viewing aircraft (such as the oddly registered Polish machine) parked down at the hangar end somewhat difficult! A pleasant return to the art of 'spotting'; clear day, blue skies, temperature close to 30 degrees in the shade (and there isn't any), the camera battery ready and recharged after months of sitting idle. Even a few interesting aircraft between the Ryanairs too! What more could I ask for? MALAGA AIRPORT, TUESDAY 1st JUNE 2021 Well after 18 months or so, at long last I've selected a new photo host after the successive deletion set-backs of Photobucket, GoogleDrive/Gdurl and Tiny. After an initial struggle with unclear instructions, seem now to have mastered load, code and download. Early afternoon at the inland end of the active runway, the sun being near straight down the center-line.Distinctively painted ATR-72-600MPA mm62311/20 of the Italian Customs Police, currently at Malaga for humanitarian patrols looking for refugees crossing from Africa. This shape was a little of an identification challenge, turning out to be a PZL M-28 Skytruck. Lufthansa Airbus A.320neo D-IAJA departing Another surprise on the military apron was this SA.342M Gazelle of the French Armee de Terre. Not an easy photo, taken just before trees in an Avocado orchard now block the view. The 'serial' GCJ is below the cabin door. There had been two there the previous week. OO-JEM an Embraer ERJ-190 of TUI Belgium departing - good to see some variety from a diet of Airbus and Boeing products. Not exactly an award winning shot, but one to illustrate a rather unusual serial, presented as SN-60YG on the Polish Border Guard PZL M-28 Skytruck. Turkish Airlines Airbus A.321Neo TC-LSE departing Iberial Regional/Air Nostrum Bombardier CRJ-1000 EC-MSL departing All white freighter Swearingen SA.227AC Metro III EC-NIR departing with small Flightline titles on the nose One Air Aviation have a fleet of DA.20s, a DA.40, couple of Cirrus SR.22 and several DA.42s for flight training. Diamond DA.42 Twin Star EC-NNU departs, a recent acquisition and the newest Spanish registration I've currently seen on their 'in sequence' register (ULMs have all sorts of alpha-numeric registrations). On the way back, as it was a particularly clear day a view close to home and then at home, should anyone wonder why I decided to live in Spain. The partly filled reservoir is Lake Vinuela, the lump of Limestone is Mt.Marona (summit is twice the height of Snowdon).

The previous visit to Malaga Airport while en route around Malaga City was to collect new specs. However after a week or two found they were not correct, so another visit to Fuengirola was deemed necessary. Another afternoon appointment provided the excuse to drop in late afternoon, when although activity is slower, there is a much wider variety of types to be seen than in the morning. Just used the Churriana viewing position, so with the sun behind my shoulder the aircraft were taking off towards me. As the reservoir level changes, so do the approach landmarks - even at the start of this summer the Lake is only around 55% of capacity. Aircraft on the military apron are typically parked tail on to the unofficial viewing area - the Polish M-18 is still there and can be just about be made-out ahead of the right CL-415.

MALAGA, Wednesday 30th June 2021 (3rd Visit of the month) Morning Visit, 1120-1220, Museum site only Looked around the Museum for visual changes over the past 18 months and recorded any aircraft departures before they disappeared into coastal cloud. A low cloud bank lay along the coast, on an otherwise hot cloudless day, so aircraft on climb-out disappeared as they crossed the threshold. Here TUI Boeing 737-8K5 OO-JAF in "Family Life Hotel" bill-board scheme is caught just about to disappear from view. Attractive colours. Raytheon 390 Premier 1 G-FRYL about to be fueled up and awaiting the passenger to arrive in an ambulance before departing. Raytheon 400XP HA-YFH with 'Plazacenters' tail logo, one of very few aircraft on the executive apron to display an owner's logo. An earlier visit to Malaga in mid June produced a Polish Air Force M-18 with the rather odd registration SN-60YG. Here is another weird and wonderful one, with a prefix newer than my ICAO national designators list! From the photos is either UP-EMO 18 or UP-EMU 18 (subsequently informed it is UP-EMO18, see a post below). The type is an Embraer EMB-135BJ Legacy 650. The close-up is just to prove I've not photoshopped the registration for a leg-pull, it is genuine! A quick 'Google' does not bring forward any 'hits' so it would appear the marks are quite recently applied, although I have found that registration prefix UP- is allocated to Kazakhstan, while SN- is allocated for Polish Government aircraft. I didn't know that until now and I bet you didn't either! Another exotic Embraer EMB-135BJ Legacy 650, but this one, XA-SSE, I know is from Mexico. This propless and with at least one engine removed Aero Commander has sat inside this open hangar for at least 4 years. I've yet to see any record of which aircraft it is though, do you know? So shiny black you could lose it in a hangar at night, Challenger 604 D-AEOM. Another Challenger 604, this one is N843CC For the past 4 years a start to a much needed restoration of the DH.104 Dove in the museum has been imminent, along with a roof over the concrete revetment it now stands in. Work has clearly now commenced, with the pealing paint removed and a primer coat partially applied to the metal surfaces, while the twisted wood and torn fabric of the control surfaces has been removed to allow access for restoration. A long way to go yet. The plans certainly were, and presumably still are, to paint it to represent G-AROI in British Eagle colours as "Eaglet", a scheme I remember from around 1966 when it came to Speke regularly for maintenance work. The trike from an Air Creation flexiwing microlight. No identity on the control panel, although all instruments and engine are there. There is another Air Creation trike with the flexi-wing attached inside the Museum Hall, which is visually in much better condition. The other addition to the Museum is also stored outside along with a number of vehicles, the bare frame of a Coyote I ULM One for "Vanguard" - I know during his working days that he has been both an apron marshall "bats" and the "follow-me" driver, but I bet he never combined the two jobs! A new exhibit indoors. What would "health and safety" have to say today about doing a job that required standing on a moving vehicle while requiring both hands to do your job?

Afternoon Visit, MALAGA AIRPORT, 1505-1900, Churriana end. After a drive on to Fuengirola, collected new specs, had lunch and returned to a very hot Malaga Airport a little earlier than intended, so got the garden furniture out and sat under under the big sreading tree outside the fence at a bend on the road at Churriana. The late afternoon Madrid link is operated by Iberia Regional/Air Nostrum using a Bombardier CRJ-1000, this one all white, with airline titles, EC-MPA. A fortnight ago, the Alitalia flight was operated by an ERJ-190, this week by an Airbus A.319, EI-IMT, providing me with the initial thought as the aircraft appeared from behind a thicket of trees, "Wow, that IS a rather fat Embraer!". Well that has been quite a month for aviation visits in my local area - driven more Km in May and June 2021 than during the whole of April 2020-April 2021! No further visits to Malaga Airport currently planned - should have been two trips in July, but Ryanair cancelled the flights of visiting family (well made up their minds for them as the UK and now Spain tightened their Covid self-isolating requirements). So after quite a flurry of Spanish photos, likely none for a little while, but I do have some charming Speke '60s nostalgia shots ready to post at the weekend.

Hi Brian
Love your reports, always great to see something different from overseas!
The Aero Commander is N444WA , a Twin Commander 500A (c/n 500A-1272-95). It has been in storage for several years as you've noted
Hope this helps

Many thanks to Beemer and Marpleman for their information. Good to confirm the Legacy registration marks and I'm pleased to now be able to 'pin' an identity on the stored Aero Commander.
After over 12 months of enforced 'hibernation' it was good to get out again and do some serious airport spotting and photography. Even better as several of the visits discovered far from routine run-of-the-mill aircraft and a fair variety of airliner types during the afternoon visits.
