As a small boy I was bitten by a dog just outside the bar/cafeteria on the apron level. Am I correct in remembering that there was a small apron level viewing point, or did it happen on the balcony? Anyhow, dad was having a drink, me outside looking at aeroplanes. Man with a dog there also. I did ask could I stroke the dog, man said yes, I did, and dog jumps up and bites me on the cheek. Lot of blood, lot of crying and dad takes me out to the Police lodge for a plaster and to report the incident. Needless to say bloke and dog had done a runner. Bite was deep, and as dad didn't drive Police man drove us down to the old Southern Hospital, right opposite where my dad worked at James Troop & Sons.
I still have that scar, prominent enough to be seen today. Probably outside the Police Officers remit, but kind of him all the same.

Indeed, this article was taken (with permission) from the FoLA 09/27 magazine 115 - Winter 2010/2011.
Surprised anyone on here with an interest in Liverpool Airport isn't a member and enjoying this caliber of article regularly!
The quote at the bottom of the page is the 'footer' of the magazine.

I am looking for photos of the members of the SPEKE AIRPORT POLICE during the 1950s to the 1970s. Sgt Darcy was the senior Sgt till 1960 when he left Liverpool Airport and was posted to Scotland. After he retired he returned to Liverpool. From 1960 the supervisory officers were Sgt Steve Kelly, Eric Fitton, Bruce Liggett and Sid Cox - the officer in charge was Inspector John Buchanan. Sgt Kelly had served in the Irish Guards during the war. He was one of the first members of the SAS, operating in North African behind German lines. Sgt Eric Fitton looked after the late King Hussan of Jordon on his private visits to his wifes family, who resided in the Fulwood Park of Liverpool. Photos of the police dogs patrols and vehicles used are also sort. Any help will be appreciated in this research project - to compile a history of the policing of the airport. I'm new to all of this. My father was an Air Ministry Constable at Speke Airport between (roughly)1948 and 1955. Robo
