Hi, i know its a long shot, but in the mid 1970's on the farside of RAF Woodvale there was a wrecked aircraft. Any ideas to its identity or registration. stay safe

Might be worth your while looking at back copies of Wrecks & Relics for the 1970's should have the answer in there.

Pete
As a spotty ATC cadet paying regular visits during the 1969-1971 period I seem to remember the remains of a Meteor in the long grass near the railway line. I cannot remember whether it was a single or twin seater but you can at least use this to narrow the search. There were a few single- seaters still active here at that time - possibly F8s-, in grey/green camo scheme. Happy hunting. Paul D

Hi Pete. Thanks for setting the grey cells off on another 'lock-down' quest. Your a/c was Meteor T7 WA718/Y ( ex 5 MU, CAW, 611 Sqn, 612 Sqn and 205 AFS ). These details are from W&R 6 of 1978. The text says the a/c was in a bad state by this time, but it was likely to be the one you were interested in. It is also likely to be the one I remembered. W&R 4 ( 1974 ) references the airframe at the same location. Never dispose old reference books ! Hope this helps. Paul D
