There are a lot more aircraft there than I realised. Many years ago, (mid 1980s), we took the company Dove up to Walney Island in connection with a potential 748 operation, and the Chief Test Pilot was flying us. He was ex-RAF and had used the range numerous times and wanted to have another look at it. Permission was granted and we did a couple of low (500ft) circuits, but apart from a few MiGs and other military hardware, many of which were made of wood as I understood it, there wasn't a lot to be seen. Did these appear after the end of the Cold War?

I have seen this video on a UK Wrecks and Relics Group and the debate surrounding it. The modern term for these young men is urban explorers (or trespassers and vandals) it is the 'in thing'. Not only are these people trespassing they are coming tooled up and crudely removing souvenirs from the aircraft. The aircraft are on an RAF range which is MoD property and actively patrolled. Access is very difficult over challenging ground (marshes) and the area is very remote. Base security are getting sick of these intruders and have now closed off the surrounding roads. Anyone caught can expect to be arrested and detained with the inevitable consequences.
One muppet posted footage of himself sat in the Mil-24 cockpit on social media. No prizes for guessing the outcome 🤔
