I stumbled upon a timetable recently from Silver City for services from Woodvale to Newtonards in 1955 with Bristol 170 aircraft Did it ever materialise? I know there was a service from Castle Kennedy (near Stranraer) to Newtonards It was a bit like pre Ryanair finding airfields near towns rather than using the main aerodromes. Quite a fascinating concept... Would love to know any details I have a picture of it but it won't seem to load ...file to large? best regards John Young

John Quick look and I found the following taken from the following website miscellavia.com/g-amwv-queen-of-the-irish-sea/Manx Airlines had tried to establish Bristol Freighter links to Northern Ireland and Castle Kennedy, near Stranraer, as early as 1955 and Silver City briefly maintained these with routes between both Woodvale and Castle Kennedy and Newtownards. So it seems it did run to both Castle K and Newtownards from Woodvale Regards Dereks

Aldon Ferguson, researcher and author who many will associate with Burtonwood, wrote a book on the History of RAF Woodvale, published by the M.A.S. and later a revised edition too. He confirms that there was indeed the brief operation of a scheduled service between Woodvale and Northern Ireland. It failed due a combination of weak loads and the reluctance of the RAF Station Commander to have civilian operators on the base. Civilian aero clubs also had problems establishing operations from RAF Woodvale (cross reference to the history of the Southport and Merseyside Aero Club history elsewhere in the Nostalgia Section).
Hopefully "JY" will sort out posting images of the timetable on NWAN shortly.

In last years Propliner Annual there was a very comprehensive article written about the UK's Bristol Operators. I'm sure you can get hold of a copy for a few pounds.

The link to miscellavia is a good read and at least to me, provides several bits of info I did not know. Thanks.
