Thanks, klm1041. Here's another shot of Eli Lilly N309EL on 16 Mar 1977 (St.Etienne Day). Always fascinating to watch the big cargo hatch opening and the cargo being unloaded Ken

The next 8 pics were taken on 12th April 1972 - H.S.748 Srs.1 (G-ARMX) of Dan-Air/Skyways; in partial Skyways livery shortly after the take-over of Skyways International by Dan-Air View of "International Apron and Terminal" (eastern end of main apron and converted No.2 Hangar), with One-Eleven 416 (G-AVOE) of Cambrian, and a Canadian Mooney 21 (CF-SJU) engaged in a round-the-world flight, and recently arrived from Hartford, Connecticut. The Mooney is being flown by two Aussie brothers, Mervyn & Colin Walsh, originally from Queensland but now living in Toronto. The flight from the States took 14 1/2 hours with extra fuel tanks giving the Mooney a range of 3.500 miles. After refuelling at Speke the next stop is Oxford for repairs, then on to Australia, and finally back to Toronto via New Zealand, Tahiti, and Fiji. They are planning to take about 7 months to complete the trip V.806 Viscount (G-AOYN) of Cambrian Airways BAC One-Eleven 530 (G-AZMF) of British Caledonian, with 'OYN CF-SJU taxying past 'ZMF, en route to Oxford for repair work before heading off around the world 'ZMF with 'OYN taxying past ex-Skyways H.S.748 ('XVG); Dan-Air, with Cambrian One-Eleven ('VOE) behind 'VOE arriving on the main apron

Thought I'd throw this pic into a thread that appears to have gone somewhat moribund!Shorts Belfast C.1 XR365NOV1967: I believe it was being used by Shorts Bros. for flight testing. This aicraft became G-HLFT with HeavyLift Cargo Airlines, then as 9L-LDQ and now RP-C8020. It is currently (November 2010) sitting on the Cairns International apron where it was moved prior to the scrapping of the remaining company Boeing 727 (RP-C8016) at the end of September 2010. Per Wikipedia, it is understood that the aircraft cannot be started and could possibly be a candidate for the second scrapping of a HeavyLift aircraft in Cairns.Surprised my 'old Mates ' Garstonboy & Springy haven't come up with this one! Does PHB have an exact date? TheTexPat

As current 'custodian' of PHB's Liverpool Airport Movement Logs for the 60's and 70's, I've had a good hunt through the 1967 Log-book.
In 1967 two Short SC-5 Belfast C.1s called at Liverpool. XR364 and XR365. The type visited fairly frequently, usually with Shorts Bros test pilots at the controls, from and to Sydenham.
Commonest was XR364, while XR365 is only noted three times in the 1967 logs at Liverpool: on 13th July as 'Short 4' Sydenham-Boscombe Down, on 7th September as 'Short 1' Sydenham-Brize Norton and finally 16th September as 'Short 5' f&t Brize Norton.
There is however a single recorded visit by a Belfast in November, on 28th when an unidentified aircraft visited, calling 'Evergreen 72' from Boscombe Down to Brize Norton. As not identified, possibly only a land and back-track, rather than calling at the terminal - the logs don't differenciate.
So it would appear I cannot tie-down a date for this photo, but that should not distract from a great shot of a grand aircraft unmistakeably at Liverpool.

I'll try to find a date, but Belfasts XR364 and XR365 made many visits, using our ILS for development flying of their 'Autoland' system. Many visits were just 'touch-and-go' on the new runway, but I'm sure both came up to the old terminal several times. On many visits the log just recorded the Shorts call-sign, not the serial number, so there could have been others as well. PHB

For those interested in the type, there is a scan of an official airport photo of Belfast G-ASKE, (which became XR362) at the terminal on the main NWAN website at www.nwan.co.uk/images/classbelfast.jpgPresumably on its first visit Cheers, Dave

Those photos of the Cambrian Viscount brought back memories. My first ever flight was in G-AOYN out of Speke.
Thanks

An FYI for anybody interested in the current status of the former XR365 Belfast the following pic, compliments of GoogleEarth, shows is parked at Cairns Airport on 01SEP2008! Apparently it hasn't moved since then and is posted For Sale at: with the 'retired' B727-100F of Heavylift Cargo!

The photograph of PH-MAN is captioned as the first stretched DC-9 to visit Liverpool. That honour fell to PH-DNN of KLM on 26th June 1968. PH-MAN was the second stretched DC-9 to visit with several visits in 1968 onwards - first being 7th October 1968. Regards, Rob
