Somewhat mixed news for me today. Easy Jet have just announced a new route to my local airport from Manchester. Yes its good news but given that Jet2 already operate that route and have done for a few years I am just a little disappointed that the EJ route is not from Liverpool.

Somewhat mixed news for me today. Easy Jet have just announced a new route to my local airport from Manchester. Yes its good news but given that Jet2 already operate that route and have done for a few years I am just a little disappointed that the EJ route is not from Liverpool. I was told some years ago by a senior being in easyJet that there is a not too hidden agenda between both airlines. The agenda is a simple one - easyJet want to see Jet2 out of the way. If there was ever any chance of this happening it would have been a few years ago when Jet2 had an unreliable fleet and possibly overstretched themselves. With a totally new fleet and new bases, I don't think this is achievable any longer. I don't know where Ryanair stand on this, but I think it explains, to some degree at least, why there is this constant shifting of routes and duplication on others. With due respect your local airport Ron, I wouldn't have thought there was enough traffic to support two carriers to the same destination, even during the summer. We shall see...
