Having found my photos of the Polish Mig-29 Fulcrum and Spanish Typhoon at the Motril Air Display below par, thought I would drive the hour to Malaga Airport and watch them depart Monday. Got to Malaga Airport at 10:00, a little later than intended, and made for the Churriana end and found the only occupant of the military apron was a sole Canadair CL-415 on stand-by fire duties. Worse than that, aircraft were landing over the coast, so they were landing on the runway infront of me, with the sun directly into the camera lens. Not the best of locations at that time of day. Going around to the Museum was not an option (closed on Mondays). Going to the inland end of the runway would have foolish as most aircraft don't roll to the end. So took long range snaps of the very few biz-jets on the executive ramp on the other side of the runway (which with cloud earlier, were not too distorted by heat-haze) and at 10:10 moved on. Having consumed all that expensive fuel getting there, immediately turning around and going home was not an option. Repositioned to under the approach closer to the coast. My usual spot by MFI/McDonalds would also have been into sun, so made for the Plaza Mayor retail/industrial park and found a undeveloped plot (by Burger King) to park safely and take photos of the approaching aircraft from the sunny side. However by now the sun was glaringly bright and most shots a touch over-exposed due to reflecting the sun. Thought I would stay there until midday (by which time the sun is near straight down the centreline) and hopefully catch the Aer Lingus A.330 before leaving. However at 12 midday exactly the active runway changed ends so the aircraft were now passing higher overhead and climbing rapidly. Could have made my way to my favourite position, above the taxiway at the inland end, but for the next hour would have simply been repeating the same aircraft depart as I had just watched arriving! Not the greatest of days, not a single biz-jet seen moving, nor any airliner special schemes, so frustrated by an unproductive morning, departed to do some shopping (retail therapy) on the way home! Reasonably busy, although the biz-jet park was relatively empty, so a rather mundane log and a pretty ordinary selection of images from 2 hours. I'll be back at AGP in 10 days time, but for an easyJet Europe pre-dawn departure - then a few days later returning on Vueling after dark! However hope to have some good images of my travels to share on this section of NWAN forum once home again. Not that many Boeing 737-700s around, just 2 seen compared with 13 series 800 and 3 MAX8 aircraft. This one being OO-JAL of TUI Belgium. The other Boeing 737-700 series seen was PH-BGQ of KLM. Didn't spot the aircraft on the downwind leg of the approach (up near the top of the fin) until examining my images (looks like a Jet2 Holidays Boeing 737). The alternative colour scheme used by Jet2 Holidays as worn by G-DRTL Boeing 737-800 To show how useless staying at Plaza Mayor would be with the aircraft now departing overhead and climbing rapidly, Airbus A.320N G-UZLK of easyJet departs. Just for the record, although not a great image, Eurocopter EC.120B coded 782-02 transited across through the approach. One of the 'Patrulla Aspa' team seen at Motril the day before.

Tuesday 26th July 2022 MALAGA (AGP) Aircraft noted immediately after a 12:24 arrival, mostly from the NW section of the terminal, an area I've not been through before. unlike other parts of the terminals, it has floor to ceiling plate glass without sun deflectors, but with lots of reflections! Airbus A.340 mostly white, no titles, presumed an executive jet, out parked on freight apron The story as to why I was arriving at Malaga on a KLM Boeing 737 on a Tuesday, rather than by Transavia Boeing 737 on the previous day is related on the Norwich Airport and City of Norwich Aviation Museum thread: derbosoft.proboards.com/thread/40813/norwich-aviation-museum-airport-july2022KLM Boeing 737-800 PH-BCD through the windows at the the NW end of Malaga Terminal. All white and very recently registered EC-NVQ, a former Ryanair, (EI-EFL, but more recently UR-PST) Boeing 737-8AS in white overall with just Spanish flags applied. From a quick 'google' it is clear that shortly after full blue Air Europa titles were applied. Taken through tinted treble glazing. Making a nonsense of the once orderly national prefix and three individual letters system of registration maintained by all but a handful of States, the system seems to have bowed to pressures from the accountants, leading to strange sightings such as SN-60YG related on other posts on this thread and 9H-HANSA (not even 9H-ANSA) on an Air Alliance of Malta Boeing 737-8K5.

The other jet airliner to break the Airbus/Boeing monopoly was this Iberia Regional/Air Nostrum Canadair CRJ-1000 - I've got a Madrid-Malaga sector booked to fly on one of these in early October From the rear fluting of the engine nacelles, this Blue Air Boeing 737 is clearly a MAX, bet most of the passengers don't know that! Best sighting of the lot was this Cavok Antonov An.12 on the NE apron, however the view from the top of the railway station steps was darn near tail on! Also shot from the top of the railways station steps was this Boeing 737MAX LN-FGH of Flyr.

Thursday, 18th August 2022 MALAGA AIRPORT, 1150-1630. Having dropped guests at Torremolinos Water Park, 15 minutes beyond the airport, wasted time doing some shopping in Leroy Merlin (a B&Q style store). Then drove on round to the Museum, as aircraft were landing over the coast. As I was looking for parking it was evident that they had changed runway end, so an immediate move to the inland runway end, even though the bright sunlight was not in the best position for photography and gets worse as morning turns into afternoon. With a near 5 hour visit (although little moved 1400-1530, apart from Ryanair), a fairly long list of sightings. I've never seen 6 wide-body aircraft in a single visit to AGP in the 5 years since moving to Spain, an indication of how tourism along the Costa del Sol is recovering, although the Americans and Canadians have yet to return in any numbers. I've also managed to identify (and photograph) the three aircraft dumped beside the new fire station during last winter. MALAGA AIRPORT (AGP), Thursday 18th August 2022. The Aer Lingus A.330-300 from Dublin at around lunch-time has been a feature of the summer timetable for many years, here on departure. Saudi Arabian Airlines Boeing 787-9, HZ-ARA on taxi out for departure. Gulf Air Boeing 787-9 A9C-FD, with a rear fuselage Formula 1, 70th anniversary 'bill-board'. Qatar Boeing 777-300, A7-BBA One I wasn't expecting a Swiss International Airbus A.340-300, HB-JMC Final one of the six wide-bodies seen was this Kuwait Airlines A.330-200, 9K-APC, landing through the heat haze on the distant parallel. At the other end of airliner size scale, ATR-72-600 9H-NFR, all white wearing both Iberia Regional (IBR) and Air Nostrum (ANE) titles, operated for Mel-Air, operating on Iberia (IB) flight numbers. Staying on the all-white scheme theme, Jet 2 have been using this Titan Airbus A.321 G-POWN all season, with full-sized Jet 2 titles and banner-line in red. While this SmartLynx Airbus A.320, YL-LDK, just wears a small 'EasyJet' logo on the rear fuselage. The strong sun and bright white combining to fool the camera into a slight over exposure. A type rapidly becoming a rarity on passenger operations throughout Europe, the Boeing 757, this one being Jet 2's G-LSAE Two full fuselage 'bill-boards' seen. This being the more interesting of the pair, EC-NDC Airbus A.320neo in a 'Eurovision' celebration scheme. The other being much more mundane, and has been around for a while is EC-LPQ in full 'Skyteam' scheme, flown by Air Europe. A fair few Boeing 737MAX aircraft were noted, this one of 4 operated by Ryanair was EI-HEW. Iberia Express Airbus A.320 EC-MEG Finally for this post, not quite what it appears to be, as this is a TUI Belgium Boeing 737-8K5 OO-JAX, rather than a British registered one.

MALAGA AIRPORT (AGP) Thursday 18th August 2020 - IMAGES PART 2. A fair few Cessna Citations of various marks noted during the visit. This one caught me out, being a Citation 560 VI Ultra - identification not helped by a number of in-service modifications. Registration TR.20-01, with unit code 403-11 of EdA 403 Esc based at Madrid/Getafe. Another of the less frequently seen marks, Citation 650 III, CN-TKD of Ocean Air Maroc. Probably the most frequently seen of the Citations is the Citation 560 XLS Excel, here D-CJMK which seems to have been on a shuttle backwards and forwards to Hawarden at the time. A much more common mark, D-IEGA is a Citation 525A CJ2+ with small 'DigaJet' titles under the cockpit windows. One of the family of larger Citations is this Citation 680A Latitude, N601QS of NetJets USA - in the same scheme as the NetJets Europe aircraft. Of the Dassault Falcon aircraft, by far the most interesting was this Falcon 90B T18-3, coded 45-42 of EdA451 Esc/Grupo 45 based at Madrid/Torrejón, effectively the Royal Flight with 'Kingdom of Spain' cabin titles. Falcon 2000 OE-HMR of HMV Aviation lined up, beyond the still taxiing Embraer EMB-135 Legacy D-ALOA of Air Hamburg. A NetJets Challenger 350 CS-CHM on the long taxi from the executive aircraft ramp right at the other end of the runway. The Challenger 850 (based on the CRJ-200 design) is very different in shape. 9H-YOU of Air-X Jet Charter Certainly some distance from home, landing on the other runway is XA-PTR Gulfstream IV-SP, seen through the heat haze. Another Gulfstream was this newer Gulfstream 550 N505SS, which departed and quite a while later returned. A number of the biz-jets on taxi-out would 'pop' reverse thrust to aid retardation at the end of a long taxi. Usually see a few EMB-505 Phenom 300s during a visit to Malaga, on this occasion none - however there were two examples of what seems to be an increasingly seen biz-jet type around Europe, the Pilatus PC-24. This one is OO-MBP. While the other PC-24 was LX-JVC. Straying closer to the end of the runway than usual before turning to land at it's hangar down between the terminals and executive facilities, is 'Trafico' Twin Squirrel EC-MHU. Regularly seen Eliance King Air B200 EC-MUP on the move along the taxiway to the threshold. AIRCRAFT NEWLY 'DUMPED' OUTSIDE The three aircraft: N444WA Commander 500, EC-JYP Cessna 172M Skyhawk and EC-JSI PA-34-200T Seneca II. For those who know Malaga Airport, they can be easily seen from the freight area/hire car premises entered from the small roundabout on the road that passes under apron and taxiways in a tunnel from the terminal area towards the runway ends roundabout. From the freight entrance roundabout, immediately left and park-up. The photos are looking across, above the road as it leaves the tunnel.

Sunday, 21st August 2022, MALAGA AIRPORT, 1910 to 2120. Briefly logged the aircraft on the NE main apron from the top of the railway station stairs, then moved to Churriana viewing point, with the sun over my shoulder and getting lower. Two aircraft on the military apron, both tail-on! The Avocado trees in the field inside the airport boundary have grown so much, that unless you are fortunate to get a view down a row, even then the result is a serial, but no photos! Two BBJs, both with colourful schemes, but neither in an open position to photograph. When I arrived 12 was departures and 13 arrivals, so most shots are of departing aircraft, although most arrivals can be seen as they park on the SW main apron. Just before 9pm the airfield reduced to one-runway operation using 12. MALAGA AIRPORT, Sunday evening 21st August 2022 Having dropped family for their flight home and seen them to the departures search-comb, briefly walked out to the top of the station stairs. Glad I did, as there was a golden Boeing BBJ and several smaller white Exec jets parked on the overflow apron. 9M-III, Sultan of Johor, Boeing 737-800 BBJ2. Angle and lighting are not ideal. The white nose is a Dutch Falcon. From the same location a Luxair Boeing 737-700 LX-LGQ at the end of the landing roll on 13. From there around to the Churriana fence. Being 2 hours before sunset, the sun was over my shoulder, just where it should be, and getting lower. Straight across from the viewpoint were a further two Boeing 737 BBJ, parked between terminal and the executive apron. Unfortunately the one with an interesting scheme was behind a white one with a narrow cheat-line. The -900 was visibly so much longer than the -700! A6-DAS a Boeing 737-700 BBJ, behind which was a somewhat longer Boeing 737-900 BBJ3. HZ-ATR a Boeing 737-900 BBJ3 in a striking scheme. Airbus A.220-300 YL-AAR Balta Air, departing. Well lit by the low sun behind me. Just a shame, that in the excellent light for photography, movements were generally fairly slow at that time on a Sunday. Only 'polar bear' not previously seen by me this summer was 9H-AWK Airbus A.320 operating in Eurowings titles. Another Airbus A.320 YL-ADK operating with just an easyJet sticker on the rear fuselage would not cooperate again, staying behind other aircraft (a few days ago my attempt at a photo was well over-exposed due to white reflecting the bright sunlight). What I initially took to be two ATR-72-600s operating with Maltese registrations for MelAir on Iberia flights, but with Air Nostrum and Iberia Regional titles, actually appears to be at least four aircraft. Here 9H-NFR departs. It almost seems to be a competition this summer to see who can add the most lumps and bumps onto King Air aircraft. 2-WKTO has not only the regular belly pannier, but a reasonable sized 'bath tub' dome on the roof too! Am I the only enthusiast whose recognition skills are being tested by Embraer's marketing departing, with basically the same airframe tweaked from a Phemon (a great name for an aircraft) to a Legacy (a name already used by them on a quite different airframe) and now a Praetor (a what?)? D-BALL being an EMB-550 Praetor 600. It is just as well, as Air Hamburg seems to be registering many of its aeroplanes with 4-letter English words, that due to aircraft weight they generally begin with the letter 'B', otherwise D-JOKE would be rather appropriate for an Embraer aircraft names at present. Challenger 605, T7-DMA departs. Being registered in San Marino always seems to make T7- registrations that little bit rare and exotic. Hélity seem to be making a good job of linking various points in Southern Spain to places in Northern Morocco. Others have tried and failed in the past, but Hélity seem to have found a good helicopters for the job in the Agusta AW.139. Here EC-MUN is seen rising from a runway/taxiway intersection, while later EC-MLK descends to touch down at the same location. Hélity seem to be making a good job of linking points in Southern Spain to various places in Northern Morocco, others have tried in the past and failed, however despite severe political restrictions on movement between Spain and Morocco added to strictly applied covid regulations, Hélity seems to have survived the past two years. Have admit I thought the only Boeing 737-300s still operating in the UK were by private charter companies eg 2Excel, so was a little taken aback by G-GDFM being a Boeing 737-300 series still in use on holiday flights by what is predominantly a Boeing 737-800 operator. As the sun set behind me, so the pollution over Malaga took on a warm glow. Airbus A.320 SE-ROC of SAS departing into the 'warm' light. The effect only last for 10 minutes or so, otherwise I would not be pointing my camera at an older Boeing 737-800 EI-DPH of Ryanair. The effect is already fading as Norwegian LN-ENR departs. At just before 9pm aircraft commenced landing (as well as departing) from 12. OK-TSM Boeing 737-900 of Travel Service Canaria seen just departing the runway following landing. By altering my position and aiming lower and more towards the sunset, a final technicolour shot of the day, EC-LVS leaping into the sky. By now 21:20 CET, with the sun on the horizon, time to drive home, mostly in the dark after a very pleasant two hours watching aircraft as the heat of day dissipated.
