The ex Hong Kong Douglas C-54A G-ASEN arrived at Speke at the end of a long delivery flight on 3rd February 1963. The photo was very likely taken the following day - I speculate that as the Luftwaffe Nord 2501 Noratlas GC+120 called on Monday 4th February 1963.
The photo of Aer Lingus's F-27 Friendship EI-AKA is impossible to date, but has to be in the period across 7 winters, 1959/60 to 1965/66. Sud Flug's Douglas DC-7 D-ABAS and Condor's Viscount D-ANUN were at Speke together on Wednesday 3rd March 1965 transporting Cologne FC fans (likely in the DC-7) and team (likely in the Viscount) for a Quarter-Final European Cup, second leg, clash with LFC. The match was postponed by the referee after the team and fans had arrived at Speke. As recounted in the 1964/65 season entry on: derbosoft.proboards.com/thread/28359/liverpool-airport-football-aircraft-1962 this clash after draws home and away and the postponed fixture was settled by a 'neutral' ground fixture in Rotterdam - which ended as another draw! LFC proceeded into the Semi-Finals on the toss of a coloured disc. No penalty shoot-outs, but just imagine the havoc caused by fitting two extra games into the packed mid-week fixture list of today. Very different rules then. Nice shots, many thanks for sharing them.

Thanks Brian. I would put the F.27 in the same approximate time frame, too. I hadn't realised (but probably should have done), that the two German aircraft were in for football charters.

I hope that 'Garstonboy' will be delighted at my continuing his theme to share a few further snowy 'golden oldies' on the former north airfield, some even further back in history - all these are part of the Don Stephens collection and are almost certainly his own camera work. I suspect these two photos are taken on different occasions a few days apart as the F-86 Sabre 19174 Royal Canadian Air Force has moved! Airwork processed F-86 Sabres at Speke between November 1952 and January 1958. 19174 does not appear in Phil Butler's movement logs, while it is recorded that Vampire NF.10 WM670/B arrived on 22nd March 1954. However, I fancy that this shot is almost certainly nearly a year later, during winter 1954/1955 as it looks as though the aircraft is near completion of overhaul and conversion to a Vampire NF(T).10 and could be undergoing engine runs (as the engine access covers and various panels are not fitted in place). B.E.A. Douglas C-47A Dakota G-AGIU on 26th February 195 5. In those day likely not a legal 'Health and Safety' issue, just polite common-sense, a pathway has been cleared in the snow for the passengers to walk from terminal gate to aircraft steps. Both undercarriage legs seem to be getting a good inspection. THum (Temperature and Humidity Flight) Spitfire, based at Woodvale dropping off meteorological observations at the Airport Met Office for transmission to the Met Office Central Forecasting Unit at Dunstable. Spitfire PR.19 PS915 in post war silver scheme. Dated 26th February 195 6. While snow on the 26th February exactly one year apart is quite possible, I suspect a 'typo' error has crept in to the caption sometime in the past 66 years and that the Dakota and Spitfire shots were actually taken on the same visit to the Airport! The one with the terminal in background is an image from a b&w print I've used before on NWAN Forum, the reverse view out across to the river is an image I'd not previously seen, produced directly from a negative to a digitally generated image using advanced 'correction' software by someone (Peter Arnold author of Spitfire - THE book?) and now scanned back into digital format. Knowing that Sud Flug's DC-7 D-ABAS had only visited Speke on the one occasion, 3rd March 1965, I had a long hard puzzling look at this image as a b&w photo, as I could see no sign of the snow which was quite evident on 'Garstonboy's' images taken on the same day, although on the main apron rather than parked around on the Western Apron. However on a colour version of the photo it is just apparent that while the apron and buildings are totally clear of snow, it is still covering the distant grass areas over towards Dunlops factory. Two 'classic' balcony shots of Viscounts at a snow covered Speke, both taken by Don Stephens on 9th January 1968 featuring Cambrian Airways G-AMOP and British Eagle's G-ATDR "City of Glasgow". The Aer Lingus Viscount parked on a disused taxiway (seen beyond the Cambrian aircraft) likely arrived as a diversion and is probably either EI-AOE or EI-AOL. At that time Viscounts were the mainstay of scheduled services from Speke by all three airlines. Some of these shots are likely familiar to long-term FoLA members having featured in '09/27' in the past.
