Hi everyone,
Could anybody please report identities for the two Gnats which landed at LPL this morning and are presumably lurking somewhere on the west apron?
Thanks,Keith

Sorry to be a pedant but the Gnats are XP504 and XR538.XS111 crashed years ago.XP504 has been painted to represent `XS111`.I don`t think either of the aircraft served with the Red Arrows, unlike the real XS111. Both of the Venoms have spurious RAF serials, they are ex Swiss.
This may be your last chance to see Tornados in service, there are strong rumours that the Strategic Defence Review next month will see them withdrawn pdq. It`s even possible that the RAF itself will be reduced to the Air Component of the British Army operating only Typhoons and UAVs in combat.....................blame the bankers!!
Gareth
PS The Hunter is also ex Swiss, the badge on the fin looks like the old 899NAS motif,as worn by Sea Harriers and Sea Vixens(and a few Hunter T.8Ms)

Travelled to Malaga on Saturday morning on EZY7179. Departure time was booked as 0650 and the aircraft was A320 G-EZTV. Take off was at 0710 with a thee hour flight time for a route via Santiago and Seville with a landing on the north west facing runway. We were on stand B22 at 1056 local time, 16 minutes late. Not bad for the extended flight.

About the Gnat XS111----- I was not implying that this particular aircraft flew with the Red Arrows but meant that this type of aicraft was used by the Red Arrow's when they first formed and my first encounter with them was at an Airshow at Speke as it was called then, I seem to think it was the year that the Birdman ,I belive from France ,was killed when his wing hit the door of the Dakota he was jumping from. Is there anyone on the forum who can enlighten me as to what year it was?? . I left the forces in 1964 so it must have been later.

Gnat T.1 marked as XS111 is painted to represent an early 'Red Arrows' colour scheme, as worn in the mid 60s.
The 'Red Arrows' only brought their red Gnats to Liverpool in April 1972 and May 1973 for Speke Air Shows and in August 1978. There was also a solo Gnat at the June 1963 and the April 1972 Air Shows. The 1956 Air Show was the one the Birdman plunged to his death.
There is comment on the visit by Gnats to Liverpool on a thread 'Southport Air Show Cancelled', and you may be interested to know that on the 'Liverpool Nostalgia and Memories' section, but now right back on page 6 of the index sides, is a thread detailing every post-war air display at Liverpool.
