I still believe the Manchester base of Easy jet will pose a significant threat to LPL,the announcement of a new route to Gibralta fails in my eye to sway those thoughts, reading the article in the Liverpool Daily Post last week regarding the CEO of Easy Jet and her ideals for easy jet show that more growth will come from Manchester rather than liverpool,so much for Manchester not being interested in the low cost no-frills market. Interestingly Carolyn McCalls last job was CEO of the Guardian Media Group a Manchester based organisation, that is not being paranoid but I have heard all these platitudes before regarding Manchester expansion not impinging on LPL,again I will wait and see with baited breath

Charlie, You are not being paranoid regarding Manchester; you are simply being realistic. Manchester, the City and its environs, established itself as the premier place in the North to do business in the 50's and the years following. (You can argue endlessly as to why Liverpool gave up this powerful position.....but it did.) Now all the movers and shakers in the North are established in Manchester. The City made a fantastic job of developing what is the best Airport in the North of England. It is hardly surprising that Easyjet and others will increase their presence there. The job of the management of Liverpool Airport is to ensure its place and build on it. Watch this bulletin board and others in the next 6/12 months to see a return of Ryanair to Manchester as they adjust their business model to attract more business travellers.

Yes, totally agree with your comments, Ron. The 'Hatton Years' did more damage to Liverpool from a business perspective than most people realise. Manchester saw its' chance and took it, attracting the banks, and all that goes with them - lawyers, financial advisers etc. Business will only go where there is stability and Liverpool in the 80's was very unstable. Manchester Airport, believing it had the creme de la creme with major scheduled carriers from around the world operating from there, was not interested in the Lo-Cos. However things have changed. As we know, a number of the majors moved out or reduced their services and the airport is now happy to have any traffic. I passed through MAN two weeks ago, on a weekday in the late afternoon and I could not believe how quiet it was. On the other hand, Peel has worked hard to encourage the Lo-Cos to Liverpool, and all credit to them. It's the nature of the beast that flights will come and go -they're simply chasing the money after all, but I believe they're here to stay where LPL is concerned.

EasyJet have now posted on their site that there are to be significant increases to services at several airports with MAN being one of them. I know easyJet had talks with LPL on medium haul flights recently, maybe there will be more announcements later, but don't hold your breath. Charlie could be right!

On a different note, EZY have a new fangled route map.
You can custom it to show different routes for leisure/business etc.
One of the customising buttons is to show flight times up to 8 hours.
Is this pointer as to what they have in the future because they dont now have any route with a flight time approaching 8 hours?

Whats the base number of aircraft over there for S11? To answer my own question it appears they have six based next summer as opposed to 5 this. On average (going by the Liverpool base) they like to get three rotations per aircraft per day and on occasion four. So around 16 rotations will be the figure for MAN for five based. So that 13% increase will suggest another two rotations with the sixth based.

Web site anna.aero is saying the Liverpool base will be up 22 departures this August as against August 2010. It also comfirms that the Liverpool/Belast Int route is the airlines most frequently flown route.

As I have been told by a friend at EJ Manchester will have One new route for summer 2011 PMI. poss they will increase freq out of man on the present routes thats where the 13% increase comes from Also, Easyjet are to start a 5 weekly Berlin Schoenefeld, 5 weekly Madrid and 2 daily Belfast International, as well as the previously mentioned 3 weekly Bilbao. Wonder where that fits in with Carolyn McColl's statement of 'MAN wont impact LPL' statement, as seen as a lot of Mancunians currently head over to LPL for MAD/SXF particularly, as seen as they wernt served till now....

The easyJet Manchester to Belfast, Berlin and Madrid services do not commence until the start of the Winter 2011/2012 schedule from 30th October.
As you mention Berlin and Madrid will be 5 a week from Manchester (Daily except Tuesday and Saturday). Services to both destinations from Liverpool will be daily, so LPL will offer greater flexibility to travellers.
But, yes not the news that Liverpool needed.

Didnt all the doomongers post widely that this route would fail for EZY? Well I was one of them, but at that time we didn't know that they were going to improve the service, particularly with regard to the re-scheduling, which has clearly got the regular travellers who cross the Irish Sea onside. Full credit to them for that. I now wonder whether they'll try to push FlyBe off the route altogether.
