The post suggests what is there now. Ok well can the airport handle a B787-9 or A350-9 or even B777-3 daily with the facilities in place now, don’t think so but of course I’d love to see those type of planes arriving daily but the airport has some work to do in many places not just a quick fix.

I personally believe that the airport has been left to look after its self, development wise.Yes we've all heard about the improvements to the departure areas, shops and all that but has anything been done out side ie; ramp. The only thing i can think of was the re-marking of the stands to accommodate the B.737 MAX. Its not only the building and the ramp with no improvements all you have to do is look where the 27 ILS arials and lights are, i know that the grass is cut to a certain hight to stop birds landing in it but this looks terrible, all i'm saying is where is all the ivestment gone.

Could we ever see KLM returning? I have noticed over the last few months that they have been steadily increasing their services throughout the U.K., even at some quite small airports. LPL appears to be the only airport not included it seems bizarre.

Investment wise surely more concrete needs to be poured airside, there was talk of expanding the tango apron eastwards to allow an extra 3 stands.with jet 2 now here and expanding then surely now is the time to do this ?

I returned to LJLA from MAN in 2005 and stayed till i retired, what you say was right we were told the very same thing 6 more stands going eastwards, next year will be 20yrs when it was said and still nothing.

I would start by demolishing and relocating the hangars. How many airports have hangars on the main apron, a ridiculous idea. They could be replaced by a boarding pier with aircraft parked either side. The portakabin gates and the old mail hub also need demolishing and the terminal extended up to the roundabout. It will never happen under Peel - the whole airport is a mish mash.

And how much is that going to cost… A lot of money, which is why I said it will never happen under Peel.

Or under anybody, let’s be honest. The airport doesn’t make enough money yet to cover investment of that scale.

It's a bit of chicken and egg. The investment is needed to attract more business, but without more business there is not enough profit to justify the investment.

My thoughts are a little 'tongue in cheek' Middle Eastern airlines were discussed earlier and unlikely to happen. If you were flying to Dubai you would expect a plush departure area not portakabin gates. As Bulldog rightly states it is a chicken and egg scenario. Regarding the hangars, two of them are unused, demolition would allow for a seamless apron through to the 'Tangos'.

As regards to building work don't forget they are putting in a new arrivals area in low season and they said they would put power to stands 1 to 4 to get rid of the GPUs, however the new GPUs they have acquired since don't pump out so much muck as the old ones did.
