Fully agree with previous posts in this thread about the "Unsavouries" hanging around Dungeon Lane. I always used to park up and adjust my car mirrors so I could see down the approach but now I have them set up so I can at least get slight warning of anyone approaching from behind the car and through the ever expanding forest of mini trees that has sprung up over this winter. My camera remains out of sight and only sees the light of day if it has to be used ! I have also dispensed with the mag mount on the roof as this is like a large flag stating that you have some form of additional radio equipment in the vehicle with you, and I only leave the bare essentials on the seat next to me so I can make a hasty retreat if someone "unsavoury" approaches. A pity this is the case when your alone on the mound but its a desolate place to be on your own even late afternoons, and I wont even contemplate being on the "mound" after 4pm especially after the schools have kicked out.
Slighty off this topic but relevant because of the "Mound" is the amount of litter namely discarded food cartons, McDonalds, KFC, Burger King etc which are just thrown out of vehicles. Apart from the eyesore it creates, it also has to be said that this discarded food is a magnet for birds which constitutes a huge hazard to aircraft due to the "mound" being so close to the centreline of the active runway. I cant help thinking that the "Mound" will only be there until god forbid there is some kind of birdstrike incident and the authorities see fit to close off the "mound" area once and for all. What resolution there is for this debate/problem is unknown, but with extra bird activity in and around the boundary recently, and having seen flights held for t/o on 27 due to "increased bird activity" and waiting for the bird scarer to appear,it seems only a matter of time before something drastic is done to limit our viewing hobby and we lose what is an excellent viewing location.
On a different matter...... Hale road from Dundeon Lane to Speke Hall Avenue, what sort of road surface is this ? Huge pot holes, stretches of torn away ashalt and tarmac and its been like this for months - well before the cold weather we had, and its decaying even more due to ice and frost damage. I cringe when I think of any airport pax coming into or departing the airport on this road. Hardly a good advert for the airport.
Will try to end on a happier note lol.....
Some naval visitors in town (supposedly) today:-

then... 25 Feb 11 HMS Liverpool D92 Liverpool Farewell visit 29 Apr 11 HMS Gloucester D96 Liverpool Boat Show 04 May 11 FGS Koln F211 Liverpool Boat Show

Hello some interesting observations guys and all so true, I was in Dungeon Lane last night at around 8:45pm I parked up adjacent to the taxiway waiting for EI-ENN to depart there was plenty of activity, cars screaming up and down at high speeds, slowing down sometimes to see what I was doing, flashing their lights at me and pulling up behind me, I never felt intimidated, I think as soon as you show any weakness these idiots will take advantage, on the other hand I would never be foolish enough to confront them either. The Police drove past where I was towards the mound and returned some 10 minutes later, I thought they may have said something to me but alas they drove on by, nevertheless the word cautious springs to mind after all its pretty dark down there and yes you need to have your wits about you.

Was talking about the very same with the other half whilst there on Sunday, the place is a disgrace, in addition the amount of dog turds there is disgusting and a real health hazard to children who visit there with their families. Who actually owns that piece if land, does it belong to the farm? If there's some kind of council responsibility then I suggest a visit to the next ward committee meeting where these issues can be aired, recorded and hopefully dealt with. Preferably litter and dog foul bins should be installed, not to mention a good site clear up. Regards, Garry

The council issue will be interesting as the boundary meanders up and down that road.

When I was up here househunting, and when we first moved up, I always aimed for the mound, but now I continue further around the road as if driving towards the tower, then where it widens out a bit, normally pull over around that area. Makes the shots more side on, and slightly away from any idiots!
