Ryanair to close check-in at LJLA

They stated that a month ago with ALL Ryanair airports doing it, not just Liverpool.

This taken form their site:

Phase 3: From 1st October 2009 airport check-in desks will no longer be available at any Ryanair airport. All passengers will be required to web check-in and those who have checked in bags will use the airport “bag drop” desks, if required. From this date, children under the age of 16 will no longer be able to travel unaccompanied and passports and national ID cards will be the only accepted forms of photo ID on Ryanair flights.

Anyone that didnt see this coming a few years back,is quite the proverbial Ostrich,with their head burried in the sand,Its just the next step in the evolution of the loco,s, and indeed some legacy carriers.I do not personally disagree with it,If you have hold luggage you should pay,However I strongly disagree with charging for internet check in,by Ryanair, from new bookings this month,A passenger with no bags,has to payand theres no way around it,unlike all their other charges,I think Ryanair have got this totally wrong,As regards the check in desk service being removed, yes it will lead to job losses ,as the handling agents will probably no longer rent the desks from the airport authority as no charge can be made to the Airline.British airways at terminal 5 LHR is now a kiosk check in for all flights with a bag drop,so its legacy carriers as well.

As the access to the proposed new security area is adjacent to check-in desk 1, the end of Ryanair check-in could be a help to make the flow of passengers easier. With everyone going to that end of the terminal plus queues for check in, congestion problems would occur and negate the point of the security moving to hanger 1. Time will tell of course but the planners had better get this right or they could end up with causing just as many queues as they get rid of!

This move, not exclusively to Ryanair, represents just one more wake up call from the dream we were all living with lo-cost travel.
Sure, I always use on line check in when possible, but it is not always possible. Not everybody carries a laptop, not all hotels have public internet facility, free or otherwise, so it becomes an impediment to travel.
I also strongly protest about the payment for on line check in. If it is mandatory, essential, then it should be part of the headline price for the ticket. I recently booked a flight with FlyBe, online, and found there was a £2 booking fee payable: no way around it. How am I supposed to buy the ticket execpt by booking. telepathy perhaps?. Should be part of the advertised basic travel cost. Its a nonesence, a confidence trick and it brings the indusrty into disrepute. I am writing to trading standards about this one, not that I suppose it will do me much good, but if others do, perhaps it might have some effect.

I think it will. They have been looking at this industry for quite some time now and it all adds up to a good case against them. The more public support the statutory bodies can get the better. As members of the public we should be able to expect that, when we see a price advertised, that is the price we pay - including tax and all other mandatory payments.

This Airline certainly needs it`s wings clipped by the powers that be,they are just not a pleasent experience anymore !

If people dont like what Ryanair are doing, then people should vote with their feet and not travel anymore with Ryanair. Their business has ALWAYS been about cost cutting and keeping the headline price low - get rid of competitors, cost cut a bit more and then start hiking the price up again through add ons or otherwise! Winning formula!
