Thank you, Commander, for another interesting snippet of advance information. Good to hear that a local company is expanding at a time when the media informs us that many are struggling.

Ravenair's P.68 Observer (large glazed nose) which is now G-OBSR, arrived in February, collected from Italy as I-OBSR. It has actually been to Liverpool before - 32 years ago!! Quite amazing as the type has such modern lines and 'look'. Operated by UK Partenavia agents, Minster Aviation, the Partenavia Observer I-OBSR was taken on a sales drive around the UK Police Forces to show-off the excellent helicopter-like visibility provided by the unusual nose. This was still in the early days of Police Forces considering helicopters as a useful weapon in the fight against crime, and Metropolitan London had just acquired two Bell 212s. I-OBSR arrived at Liverpool from Belfast Aldergrove on Tuesday 18th November 1980 and flew two local flights on demonstration to the Merseyside Police Force. After night stopping, the aircraft flew out to Aberdeen. At the time I noted in our M.A.S. local enthusiasts magazine 'EGGP' that the aircraft had the c/no 236-01-OB and the name "Minster" on the tail, while 'Flight international' had recently featured an article about the aircraft and the UK sales drive. Indeed a quick rummage around google produces a November 1980 air test report based on I-OBSR, with photo: www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchive/view/1980/1980%20-%203625.htmlwww.caa.co.uk/ginfo confirms that the I-OBSR at Liverpool in 1980 has the same constructor's number as the I-OBSR delivered to Ravenair at Liverpool in 2012. It shows the aircraft as built in 1980, which fits. The '01' in the construction number indicates that it was the first 'Observer' variant of P.68 to be converted. I wonder if "Commander" knows his aircraft had been to Liverpool before and demonstrated to Merseyside Police - although at the time would have operated from the north airfield. Or that it was the 'star' of a 'Flight' air test report feature? Equally only eight years into my career, would I have expected it ever to arrive to be based at Liverpool after I had retired!! Mind you I would never have dreamed in my wildest of dreams in 1980 preparing a newsletter for 250 members, printed on a tempermental Gestneter ink duplicator with a quirky Banda spirit duplicator for colour pages, that 30 years on, I can type in my living room and instantly reach near-on a 1000 members, worldwide, at the quiet click of a few keyboard buttons!

It would appear that G-OIIO Robinson R22 Beta is a replacement, maybe temporary at Helicentre for G-PACL R22 Beta. I saw G-PACL departing Friday, probably back to Welshpool. G-OIIO R22 by Beemer328i, on Flickr
