LPL-ABZ and LPL-SOU has, today, appeared in the online booking engine of Eastern Airways. I assume an announcement is imminent?
Rather a coup for LPL coming so soon after the KLM start if this is true...

Rather a coup for LPL coming so soon after the KLM start if this is true... It will be happening with SAAB2000,s plus other routes from september 1st,but at Easterns prices how long will it last?,The airport has tried to keep this and other airline annoucements said to also be imminent, under wraps,it only worked for a few weeks then everyone knew about it,but like I say Eastern are not a low cost airline, and this in my opnion ,is a risky move,as always time will tell.

Looks like the route will be a ABZ-LPL-SOU service so surely with it carrying transit ABZ-SOU pax this increases the chance of success.
There is still a lot of Oil workers from the Liverpool area working off ABZ so with the right fares this has a chance.
When Flybe operated the SOU pax figures were not bad but again Eastern will have to pitch in with the right fares.
good news anyway as not many routes being announced anywhere at the moment.

Yep Midland 500,hope its a success, but I think history on these routes are against them,

£131.00 for a weekend return to Southampton in July seems quite good to me. Compares well with I-O-M fares on distance for price for instance. Eastern seem to have a robust business model as they fly from many airports much smaller than Liverpool. I, too, hope they make a success of both routes and will give Southampton a go.

I think Flybe pulling the Southampton route was more to do with their expanding operations from manchester rather than poor route performance and ryanairs flight to aberdeen was never perfect when operated by a 737. Oil workers im sure will use this route. Anyway excellent news.

Its also interesting to note that eastern used to serve aberdeen from manchester but pulled out and have now chosen liverpool rather than return to manchester.

This will be primarily for business pax and I dont think that cost will be a major factor. I think that eastern have everything right. Reasonable flight times, Reasonable cost (it appears) with the right size aircraft. Flybe had healthy loads on their SOU flights, even though at only one a day it was not suited for business pax. I cant speak for ABZ as I have not flown there. I believe the only reason both SOU and GLA were pulled was because of the transfer of flights to MAN.
You also have to remember that Lime street now has the worst rail connections for any city of size in Britain, considerably worse than a few years ago, and rail is not really a good option to the destinations served by EZE.
Hopefully this will be a confirmed starter and hopefully it will be a success. If so, then other poorly served areas like GLA and EDI must be a future possibility.

A bit surprised this hasn't been announced on the LJLA website particularly as you can already book tickets.
This one has caught me completely by surprise. Did any one see it coming?
Has any other regional airport announced as many new routes during the recession as Liverpool?
Well done to them and their business strategy, attracting new airlines when many are falling away.
I wish these routes the best of luck; there may be some additional traffic with cruise ships coming into Liverpool too.

The only cheap rail tickets you can bet to these places have to be booked a considerable time in advance. For short term booking the airlines in many cases are cheaper than the railways. Road travel by coach is an option but for business travelers is a last resort due to the time it takes. Therefore, with the size of the aircraft they are using they should make a decent go of it, providing they can sustain reliability. I wish them the best of luck and long may they serve LJLA.

Suspect that this fits in with the lose of the Airbus contract at Hawarden, leaves a js41 and northern based crew looking for work. Hope it works out as the crews are a good bunch...
