A news site reckons Eastern is to open a new Liverpool/Bergen route.
There is nothing at all on the airlines site though.
It could mean that they are publicising a possible connection at Aberdeen, but that only works from Bergen and not to Bergen.

If you mean the site I think you do, the new route is down as only being available for a limited time - which could even mean a one of rotation.

Fair enough. When I saw it on Tuesday it said limited period only instead of new next to both routes. Having said all that as good as theairdb.com can be it does go way off beam sometimes (the Wizzair fiasco for one). Hopefully in this instance they're correct.

This is, surely, just a connection via Aberdeen.
Eastern Airways have pushed out a press release linked to an announcement of a second daily ABZ-BGO flight, which now makes connections to LPL and LBA possible.
I assume AirDB have picked up on that?

From 11th January Eastern Airways are changing their schedules again, as they are no longer basing an aircraft at Southampton.
Unfortunately it means less time in Aberdeen if you are day tripping and less seats available.
There will be three return flights a day from Aberdeen to Southampton, but unlike the original schedule only two will call at Liverpool, with the third operating through Newcastle.
The morning flight remains unchanged calling at LJLA in both directions and flown by a Saab 2000.
The next flight stops at Newcastle southbound, with the Jetstream operating through Liverpool at tea time.
The final Saab 2000 flight calls at LJLA southbound and at Newcastle on the way home.
Both the later flights are scheduled to depart Liverpool at 1745.

Rumour on PPrune that Eastern may launch 3x Daily to London Heathrow using leased EMB-135's from BMI and also using slots from BMI. As i said just a rumour and im not really sure this would be the right time to launch it but i wish it the best of sucess if its true.

I can see that post on the Durham TV thread.
I cannot see the other thread referred to where it says 'Talk on another thread'.
Any ideas?

LHR would be greatly welcomed for the connections - MAN - LHR in December 09 was 73165 passengers on the route and thats their best route - so LPL could easily take 30% or more of that market. Its all about connections and who Eastern could do code shares etc with. If they could attract BA as a code share partner is a sure fire winner. With MAN passengers numbers still in free fall and LPL growing again its good timing.

Interesting stuff!
I don't want to add to the speculation about Eastern and Heathrow, but just to comment on a recent press report about Eastern and Liverpool which puzzled me more than a little.
Major sponsors have now been named for Liverpool's first Boat Show/Festival in 2011. It really looks as though this new event could be very big. Suggestions are that, "Up to 500,000 people are expected to.....attend". The initial driver of the scheme was/is Robin Knox Johnson who has all the right experience and connections so it could be a winner. I really hope so.
The show will be based around Albert Dock from April 29 to May 8 next year.
On Jan 21st the Liverpool Echo carried a report about confirmed sponsors for the event, "Big name sponsors today threw their weight behind the city's first international boat festival.
Companies Guinness, Virgin Trains and Eastern Airways have all agreed to back the Liverpool Boat Show 2011"
This is excellent news, but what puzzled me was the size difference of these companies (= advertising budgets) and possible significance of such a boat show to the three sponsors' current businesses and customers. Sure enough Eastern could promote their, in this case, very relevant Southampton connection and also Aberdeen, but, though I don't know anything about the level of sponsorship of the three sponsors, it seemed in Eastern's case possibly 'disproportionate' considering what we currently know about their activities.
BUT, if they were considering a move onto the LPL: Heathrow route , that would be very different. Exposure to the world as a major sponsor of what could seriously be/become a event of world standing would represent a very different situation. The use of the Boat Show to advertise themselves to a wide potential customer base for a London Heathrow : Liverpool link, as well as Southampton and Aberdeen, would now make great sense!
I hope I have not done another 2+2=5 trick!!!

Companies Guinness, Virgin Trains and Eastern Airways have all agreed to back the Liverpool Boat Show 2011" Seems an odd mix of sponsors. For much of 2009 Virgin Trains have been spending big money directing targeted advertising towards the North West business community promoting their Liverpool & Manchester rail services to London. Some of their ads have made quite scathing comments on the disadvantages of flying MAN-LHR in terms of frequency, cost & hassle. If Eastern were to start LPL-LHR I think Virgin might adopt similar tactics against them but we'll just have to wait & see

I think it is a no go. A 37-seater will not be economical, 3 flights a day will be insufficient, the airline does not have a link into a global alliance, and the Embraer 135/145 luggage capacity is inadequate. All this is before you take into account the highcost of operating such a small aircraft type into Heathrow.

There's nothing stopping Eastern from upgrading their BMI 145's to 737's during this period and this could be a reason for leasing from them.
I also hope that Virgin do pick on the LPL - LHR route and shout it from as many roof tops as they can. At very least it will be advertising the route and airport to potential customers. Don't forget that many people don't want to use the train and this sort of advertising could enlighten them to the advantages of flying from Liverpool as against other regional airports. Lets face it, how many business people going to Heathrow will want to get themselves to Lime Street for a two and a half hour journey to Euston, get off and march across to another train for a further half hour. Even worse if your going on holiday and having to drag your luggage about. Come on get real, if there is little price difference then Eastern will win hands down and be thanking Virgin for their efforts. ;D

Could be a way for BMI to keep there slots a LHR until things pick up, they have been trying to sell slots there without a great deal success. They (eastern) might also think of restarting the Teeside to LHR as well that would keep another aircrat occupied
A bmi enginneer I was talking too was telling me that bmi had got the embraers on a really low monthly lease, so leaseing them to eastern at cost would make sense in the long term. Bmi regional are also in the process of trying to make 40+ crew redundant so eastern could have a ready to go set up of aircraft and crew if this rumour is right.
But its only a rumour or is it ?
