Notice that Eastern Airways have just announced a third daily non-stop ABZ-SOU commencing September 5th. So, in effect they will be recommencing the third flight - but without the stop in LPL.

Its unfortunate, but this seems to be the trend for regional routes and has been for decades. Other airports that are smaller than LPL, or in smaller cities seem to have more success at sustaining regional routes. I wonder what their secret is?

Their respective markets.
Humberside and Norwich have multiple daily flights to ABZ for instance. This is because of the strong links due to the offshore sector, providing a high yielding and strong all year round demand. As for other regional destinations, perhaps the surface transport links from Liverpool are just too strong for any airline to be able to compete with.

Rail links are fairly poor from Liverpool.

Thats the farcical thing though, you cant go direct by train to Scotland or anywhere further south than Birmingham (except London) but airlines havent been able to exploit and take advantage of this.

That's not true! Plenty of services run right through from Glasgow/Edinburgh to Plymouth (via Bristol) and Bournemouth (via Reading and Southampton); some even run all the way through from Aberdeen and Dundee to Penzance!

Called in to the airport this morning to drop off my daughter who was going to DALLAS via amsterdam (klm). Disapointed to see the grubby Eastern airways mats were still down and the logo was still behind the check in desk's .
Has anyone bothered to tell the airport that they no longer fly from there.

I mean without having to change trains at Preston, Manchester or Crewe/Birmingham. Liverpool/Merseyside's direct rail connections are by far the worst of any other metrolpolitan county in the country.
