LPL are reporting a provisional figure for pax throughput of 490,497 in May 2011, thats a rise of over 18% on the volcanic ash (= to approx 3% of pax throughput) effected May 2010.
Comparison: 2009 = 426,434 2010 = 414,505 (down 3% on 2009) 2011 = 490,497 (up 18% on 2010, up ]15% on 2009)
The 2011 is said to be the second highest May total behind the 2007 when the airport handled, excellently I may add, the UEFA Chamions League airlift to Athens.

The IoM route is up 33% in May 2011 (12258 pax) when compared to May 2010 (9242 pax).
Flybe contributed 151 pax and easyJet 2865 to the increase of 3016.

Provisional stats on the Liverpool international routes showing: route / % pax growth or loss comparing May 2010 and May 2011 / very approx % difference in the number of flights scheduled to fly comparing May 2010 and May 2011.

Interesting research.
Thank you for the effort to bring them to our attention.
The second column of figures is quite revealing. In is noticeable that the percentage change in passengers so closely follows the percentage change in number of flights/seats available, both up or down.
The route that I cannot follow the change in figures for is the Dublin (Ryanair) route. 28% increase in passengers, 14% increase in flights, sounds good - but what the figures don't show is that in 2011 on most weekdays there is no day-return facility from Liverpool (first outbound of the day is around 4pm) and inbound from Dublin there are two very late flights pm (around 10) almost together, traditionally the flight timing with the lowest load. I looked anticipating a big drop in loads, but found an decent increase - a pattern that I have to admit I am at a total loss to explain!

The number of flights is as I said 'very approx' due to the frequency of flights on some routes changing part the way through the month. The % number I inputted is taken from the number of flights flown for the majority of the month.

Here is an interesting table (if I have done it right!).
I have used the two % columns from the above list to show, hopefully, what route is getting the balance right between pax loads and frequency. The higher the difference the better.

Again a (very) approx table of figures.
In this one its set to show how many pax per flight (as opposed to load factor). You could though work out the load factors IF the route has only one operating airline and one type of aircraft (FR = 189 seats on the 737-800, EZY = 156 seats on the 319, 180 seats on the 320, KLM = 80 seats on the Fokker 70, Wizz = 180 seats on the 320) flying the route.
Column one is the route exLPL, col 2 the pax per flight for May 2011 and col 3 the pax per flight for May 2010.

Another interesting table of figures. The figures here have taken a great deal of time to 'number crunch' and have moved a long way from the published passenger load and percentage change per route. Many thanks LPL for your effort and research.
I'm not quite certain that there is mathematical validity in comparing percentage passenger growth/decline and flight frequency (2nd long table). As an example of my concern, why is Knock near top of Table 1 (growth), top in Table 2 (load change-frequency) which apparently shows RYR are 'getting it right', yet bottom of Table 4 (load factor) and therefore considerable cause for concern?
Even though we are warned that the figures are approximate, the final table of load factors is the most revealing for me (with the usual warning that there is a big difference between load factor and financial yield).
I'm a little suprised that forumities (I'm sure that there is no such word) have not commented on the patterns within the figures. Routes which I watch closely are Amsterdam (AMS) and Dublin (DUB). AMS, is below the centre of table 1, with a slight decline in pax numbers, then up towards the top of table (index of change load-frequency), then right down to bottom of table for load per flight, but back up just below the middle of table at 72% load factor.
While commenting on load factor, I found the first table a little worrying with the number of routes (16) showing negative or no growth, in a month with 15% overall growth. However, in the final table much encouraged by the number of routes with over 80% load factors. Indeed of the 47 routes listed only 10 ran under 60% full on average, and only one route operated at an average of under half full every flight.
I've already put in a penny's worth on observations regarding the Dublin route earlier on this thread. Again it is interesting how it varies in position on the different tables. From near top in terms of percentage growth, it is the top half of Table 2 (load increase-frequency index), then bottom half of Table 3 (load per flight) and even lower in position Table 4 (load factor).
Anyone else see interesting patterns in the figures?

Clearly the figures apply to International routes - not only no Isle Of Man, but no Belfast, Derry, Southampton or Aberdeen either.

I find one of the figures quite interesting.
LPL MAD was -5% in 'what route is getting the balance right between pax loads and frequency', and is now 125 pax per flight on avarage this year compared to 131 last year. Is this the beginning of the effect now MAN has a MAD route? Will it get worse once easyjet jumps aboard at MAN?
Will be interesting to see what effect SXF-MAN has later this year, considering easyjet were adamant that 'MAN wont affect LPL'.
