Internal comm sent to all crew 10th based a/c will be removed this winter, doesn't say if it will be back for summer 2012! Unable to keep the a/c profitable but LPL will apparently remain an important part of the network. Goes on to talk about MAN expansion so that's clearly where the bus is going (talk about rubbin salt in the wounds) so much for our leader McCall promising further expansion. Sad news for LPL!

Does it specify this is a 319? and not the lone 320

Doesn't say but I wouldn't imagine it would be the 320 as this will still be needed for the longer routes BJV, RHO, FUE and ACE

just wondered if the plan was to move the mid-haul to Man to let LPL concentrate on the 319 traffic

I just think it's a real shame! But i've been here before when they have reduced the fleet size of the base and thankfully we've bounced back, i'm sure we'll grow again at LPL, it's just a case of when not if!

I am sure thats true but if another airline came in and made a success of the routes dropped/frequency cut then they may find the rug pulled from under their feet.

True, let's just hope that doesn't happen! Wonder what routes though, if any are going to be dropped? could just mean a reduction in frequency on some routes or non based a/c operating some of our routes such as BFS, GVA etc?

In the past there has been BFS based aircraft flying the first BFS/LPL rotation and the last LPL/BFS with all LPL flights in between.

I think this is all a fuss about nothing. If I recall correctly at times last winter only 5 or 6 of the based aircraft were kept fully occupied over the winter with the remainder either sat round doing nothing (and earning no money in the process) or helping out at other bases.
To decide to utilise an aircraft elsewhere for the winter that would otherwise sit around doing nothing surely makes sense? Linking our departing aircraft with Manchester's expansion seems a case of adding 2 and 2 to get 5. If the aircraft leaves in January MAN will already have it's sixth aircraft on station.
The important bit is getting the aircraft back for Summer 2012...

I think the main worry is that this unit is now pulled from Liverpool, and MAN is due unit 7 (as of yet date unannounced)
This combined with the original poster saying the rest of the internal release was about MAN expansion is telling.

If the passengers are at Manchester then Easyjet will go - simple as, we can't do anything to stop it other than support our routes. If Easyjet are taking a plane away it doesn't necessary mean we will be losing any destinations. Again we could be a bit quick to jump to panic stations here. Let's wait and see what happens.. I can't see our new owners buying a stake in an airport to let it fall apart so you never know, it may open the doors to new operators..

From a person (to me) at EZY that should know, the aircraft is going to a European mainland base and the moving of the aircraft will not impact on the destinations served. So, presumably, given that then frequencies will be cut or the routes will be kept near enough as is with aircraft operating W patterns through Liverpool. The important bit is getting the aircraft back for Summer 2012... If, and when, a press release is issued it will be interesting if they say it will be back in 2012s. As things stand on the little information given it does not say.

Just been checking the EZY flights available on a Saturday in March 2012 (10th to be precise). They are still showing a need for ten based aircraft (departures to AMS, BCN, BFS, FAO, GVA, GIB, GNB, LYS, AGP and CDG between 06:00 and 07:30 hrs). Are we to assume from this that the reported reduction to 9 aircraft is indeed only a temporary measure for the 'worst' of the winter period, or is the airline selling seats on flights that it won't be operating?

Is the date before or after the time change in March?
Also its sometimes better to work out the number of based aircraft by the arrivals at night.
