If Manchester want to give passengers a fair choice perhaps they should start by spending some money on customer service course's for thier staff this has got to be best airport to fly into to ruin a holiday

All todays comments are very interesting, but the point is Ryanair will reduce this base like easyjet will, what is galling is what are the owners of LPL doing to address this situation?Has O Leary come out and said LPL will be expanded more, likewise Mcall at Easyjet they do not exude any confidence whatsoever. To be honest when Ryanair left Man in 09 people at LPL were not jumping for joy like certain comments have been made on this thread, but it beggars belief if the chief ops officer at LPL had said what Coates did on camera to the biased BBC.If we are to move forward we need to sort ourselves out in-house and make LPL a really great place to journey from,MAN will always have first pick of things, leaving the crumbs for everybody else,we have to rise above all this a try and bring other airlines here,so management get to grips with this and demand to see what the business plans are of Ryanair and Easyjet and lets strive to make this airport one to be proud of

I notice Ryanair will not be operating the routes from Liverpool to Gerona or Rome Ciampino for the winter but they are introducing both services from Manchester!
Of the 26 Manchester routes confirmed yesterday, 13 are duplicated from Liverpool. And 6 of the routes, Bremen, Brussels Charleroi, Madrid, Paris Beauvais, Rzeszow and Valencia used to be operated from Liverpool.
Totally new routes are: Beziers, Biarritz, Frankfurt Hahn, Katowice, Memmingen, Tallinn and Tours.

Well, Well, Well
Yes - Manchester is targetting traffic at Liverpool (easyJet, KLM and Ryanair), also at Leeds. The airport is not happy when Blackpool, Leeds-Bradford or Liverpool expand, which I suppose is fair enough. But Manchester does undermine and target all these airports no matter how small!
Incidentally, KLM are dropping the 6th daily rotation from Manchester to Amsterdam at the end of October, which was introduced when Liverpool was reduced from 4 to 3 a day.
It is a trait in Manchester, they hate to see other North West cities/towns prosper. Look how they did Blackpool over on the issue of the Super Casino and Preston over the Football Museum!
And I am sure it helps Ryanair target easyJet, Jet 2, Monarch, Thomas Cook and Thomson. The danger is that in bringing in Ryanair, Manchester will damage its existing customer airlines and that these carriers will ditch capacity which could be greater than what Ryanair will add.
How much expansion can be undertaken at Manchester using based aircraft as slots are once again becoming tight for the first wave of departures. So I guess it will be a battle between easyJet and Ryanair for these early morning slots.
I don't think either airline will pull out of Liverpool either, and easyJet has identified new routes to be introduced from Liverpool and plan to grow the base alongside Manchester. Amongst the routes easyJet are keen to introduce from Manchester is to both Frankfurt Main and Milan Malpensa. Will the airline now perhaps bring these routes to Liverpool in light of the Ryanair announcement.
Ryanair, as is its nature, will play Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester off against each other and there will be ups and downs as is the way when getting in to bed with this particular beast.
Ryanair is reducing down to 5 aircraft at Liverpool for the winter as they have done for the last two winters, but will continue to have 8 units on base. But remember Liverpool is also Ryanair's 2nd largest UK base. Again Ryanair have plans for new routes for Summer 2012 from Liverpool.
Hopes of Jet 2 or Monarch coming to Liverpool are misguided and a huge Red Herring!. If these two airlines cannot compete against the Big 2 at Manchester they certainly will not be able to do it at Liverpool.
But the question I ask is this:-
Are Vancouver Airport Services really up to the job? They may understand the airlines that operate through Vancouver but the European, and particularly the UK, markets are totally different and I guess Ryanair and easyJet are totally different beasts to what they are used to dealing with.
The bottom line is that Vancouver Airport Services/Peel Airports need to step up to the plate, snap out of their complacency, and start producing the goods!

A breath of sanity. Thanks Amytyst for an informed, carefully researched reply. I only hope that the last paragraph is seen by those that matter and that the current management can take the necessary steps to secure Liverpool's long term future.

Good to see the topic back on track. Let's keep it that way. Ametyst has produced a balanced assessment of the situation - thanks for that. My view on all this is that airports and airlines are in business and it is the company who provide the best service at the best price which comes out on top in the end. Yes, Manchester has the clout when it come to facilities and the number of airlines serving a higher number of destinations. This requires other airports - Liverpool, Leeds/Bradford and, yes, Birmingham as well - to look long and hard at what they do and provide that to a higher standard than Manchester. Passengers, and airlines, will then vote with their feet (and wheel and wings) and use the location that provides only the best. I would like to think that Liverpool can rise to the business challenge that is Manchester. Over to you, Liverpool Management team.

Posts from another forum
Well I wish Ryanair had introduced some of those routes from Leeds instead of duplicating Jet2 established routes like Palma,Malaga,Faro,Barcelona etc.
I wouldn't be surprised if this new expanded base at Manchester it to the detriment of the Leeds base.
I for one won't be rushing to fly from Manchester,I prefer flying from Liverpool anyday,if I can't fly from my local airport.
and
It sound more llike Manchester are jelous of Leeds and dont like the idea of losing pax to either Leeds or Liverpool. I wouldnt be suprised if Ryanair pay a miniscule amount to Man for landing fee's etc... If you ask me its a case of the big boys trying to squeeze out the smaller regional airports, then when this happens putting prices back up, we all know what Ryanair are like, love you one minute...hate you the next!!!!! Just my opinion....
and in answer to that last posting
Right on all counts I reckon!
Looks like FR appearance is causing even more effect in airlines. No idea if/when this routes flies but you cannot access the Jet2 booking section or its timetable section for this route even though its listed.
Jet2 will be taking Manchester / bergamo off sale soon in response to ryanair. Others under review[/b]

Jet2's 2 weekly BGY was never going to be able to compete with Ryanairs daily flight.
Id expect Jet2 to drop CDG (due to AF/BE being in CDG and now Ryanair in BVA), and maybe REU due to Ryanair. BCN may stay as Jet2 said sales were strong, and despite marketing GRO as Barcelona, its not BCN.

Hi starways (rapidman47).
Just replied to you on the other forum.
Monarch will go nowhere. MAN is their biggest base and they have been there since they pretty much began.
Jet will probably drop the routes I mentioned. Other than that, Ryanair will never operate the likes of Funchal, Tel Aviv and others, so, they will be ok.

Well, I dont know who he is, but, he hasnt been right about any of his rants so far. For someone who knows a lot, he sure knows very little.
As for his excuse that he deleted his posts to not play games, it seems he had second thoughts about the rubbish he posted and didnt want people to see.
Could have at least had the balls to prove/defend his posts, but no.

Nobody said Monarch are pulling MAN, There is a rumour that they may start routes at LPL not move the whole show over. Their latest press release stated they were going to diversify and serve the smaller airports.

Looks like delta154 has been in the sun again as he is carrying on having a go at people like yesterday. This hobby has always been about hard facts, rumour and the hope that something will happen. If you don't agree with or dislike peoples posts dont reply. I'm sure your anal comments or YOU won't be missed. Post on your other forum. No doubt you will reply aggressively to this post but I don't care.
Have fun and do one.
