With Easyjet growing at Manchester, and the news this week of Ryanair expanding there. I wonder if LPL would court Jet2 or BMI baby (BMI baby are pulling out of MAN this was not mentioned on recent local TV news reports, when the FR details hit the headlines).

Its fairly well known in industry circles that WW had been in talks over establishing operations from DSA, though it was deemed far too close to EMA to be viable for them. I find it unlikely that they would go head to head with EZY and FR at LPL. Likewise Jet2 and Monarch, they are entrenched at MAN, and see Manchester as a huge market...
Ithink focus may be on retaining what LPL has got, along with improving the customer experience. VAS do not have the capital to throw at it that Peel had some 10 to 15 years ago.
People must remember that making a profit is not just about pushing the maximum number of passengers through the terminal doors!

You just have to see what Jet2 sponsor/advertise in the Liverpool City Region to realise they must have plenty of customers in this area.

I suspect they do, but they already serve them 30 miles down the road.. In the grand scheme of things that is really not far at all.
Expect the next Jet2 base to be either further south, or in Scotland, or perhaps both!

They still have a strong market at MAN, much like they do at LBA despite FR moving in.. Its the way the industry works from an insider perspective. They wont be budged easily, and they certainly wont compete against themselves...

Its not the fact that they advertise around here that gets me, its when they say fly from your local airport that makes me mad (meaning MAN )

I know what you mean, they did the same in Sheffield with EMA when DSA opened, but it is effective marketing, and if you live in Liverpool and didnt know about LPL you must have been living in a dark room for 15 years.

No it doesnt LPL, it means they are adertising to as wide a catchment area as possible. They advertise in many cities that also have airports, in order to retain their position in the market. Simple business.
I think some of the local pride should be brushed aside in order to be more objective, this is not a personal dig whatsoever, but brushing that aside will help form a more realistic view of the situation.

Simple business. Simple business means you place the resource, in this case advertising, where you can get a return in this case passengers using the airline. If there where no passengers then they wouldnt advertise.

You say 'the pax they need are in this city'. Some of the passengers are in Liverpool, they are also in Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield and many other towns and cities. However you look at it though, their core catchment area is the largest in the north of England. It also has the highest inbound pull. Liverpool is a relatively small part of the catchment area when you look at the bigger picture, but of course they are still going to advertise. It just doesnt mean that without Liverpool, MAN would go to the wall. Far from it.
