Fantastic shots. The Channel Airways livery in the late 60's early 70's was one of my favorites (came a close second after the Cambrian 1-11's original, followed by BOAC, then Air India). Although I can accept three of these four photos were taken at LPL, the second (pkw) in the BE hangar, I can't accept this one. It's possibly before my time and I could be wrong but can someone out there convince me otherwise? The following photos are posted on behalf of Samba

I'd say the Trident and Viscount are taken from the old balcony and the Heron and Viking where shot at Southend. The pics where kindly uploaded for me by Dave to show a great colour scheme by a pioneering airline.

After those really crisp photos from 'Samba', I hestitate to post these three b&w found in what remains of the MAS 'Flypast' editors clubroom box of photos. None of these three deserve to have survived since the mid '80s as all are at best described as 'weak', indeed for two 'terrible' would be polite, so little suprise that none are attributed or dated on the back. However since they are 'on topic', here goes: The Channel HS.748 is at Liverpool and taken on a clearly dull, dismal, rather wet day. Not a good start, then throw in out of focus for good measure. Likewise the Heron 1 G-ANCI is also at Liverpool Airport, with the airfield and indeed apron snow covered. No.39 hangar can be seen upper right. Clearly a home developed print complete with scratches and 'soft' focus. With the look of a laboratory print, and printed on Post Card pro-forma paper, Trident G-AVYB is clearly not at Liverpool. Regretably no Carvairs or BAC.1-11 pictures in the box though, as these types are specifically mentioned in some of the recent posts.

Thanks Samba for the confirmation.
Not sure if it ever visited Liverpool in Channel's colours but their first jet aircraft later became a Cambrian Airways resident. That being BAC1-11 G-AVGP.

Channel operated services to Liverpool from either Southampton or Bournmouth. A Vickers engineer (can't remember his exact job) from Hurn flew up on a day trip to to meet representatives of the Viscount Preservation Trust to advise on preserving G-ALWF. It was a mid week flight, and as I was between jobs at the time was able to meet him off the plane.

Interesting Donboy, but I have no recollection nor can I find any records of service by Channel from Liverpool to either Southampton or Bournemouth. At various times Cambrian served both cities and it may have been possible to connect through Bristol or Cardiff from LPL (earlier on in Cambrian's days at LPL, but certainly not in the second half of the 60s or 70s). Dan Air did serve Bournemouth from LPL for several years in the 70s, this was a direct service with a stop in either Birmingham or Cardiff.

Apologies Danairamb, I sit corrected. Memory plays tricks with events of over 35 years ago. It must have been Dan Air.
