While it had made an excursion to Manchester for their Aviation Fair, it normally lives on the apron of the former Liverpool Airport Terminal, the Crowne Plaza Hotel alongside the Jetstream 41, Prince, Britannia, Meteor and SAHG's own Avro 748.

OK Silly Me!!!Ihave been working hard of late!! As I had just posted an Image of a Shorts 360 I was confused between G-ORAL which I have seen and Photographed @ Speke and G-ROND which was Scrapped except for the Cockpit @ Edinburgh. I am still trying to trace the location on the cockpit.

Just had a butchers at your cockpit internal shot of 'AL on Airport Data and was surprised to see the cockpit fittings intact. Right down to that approach plate holder on the control column (that was forever finnishing up on the floor!) Do you know if this its present state Chris?

Excellent. Wow.
It is amazing how few photographs of G-BEJD at Liverpool have been unearthed. The aircraft was such a common sight, we rather tended to ignore it as an operational aircraft.
What a wonderful shot of 'JD this is. The aircraft and airport terminal being so clearly identifiable.

Thanks for taking the trouble to post that Mic. I am so pleased that it hasn't been trashed and obviously in very good hands. Compare your shot to the in service cockpit shot earlier in this thread. Is it just Saturdays when it is accessible to the public?

Continuing my underwater them, G-AVXJ, although ownwd bt Emerald never saw service with them, after storage @ Exeter, it can mow be found at the Upper Vobster at the Vodster Quay Dive School

Ah yes - the infamous Large Freight Door (LFD) on 'UV. The story goes that DA were looking for a 748 which already had one fitted, but there were none available, so they opted to convert an existing aircraft. They approached BAe to do the work, but they wanted an arm and a leg, so they eventually opted to buy the design drawings instead, (which weren't a lot cheaper!). The work was done at a DA's base at Lasham, and even the BAe engineers who inspected the work reluctanly agreed that they had done a good job. The rumour at the time was they had won a contract from the UKAEA to carry nuclear material from Walney Island to Dounreay, though afaik the aircraft was never used for this purpose, although they did pick up a lot of ad hoc work for it.

Hi Garstonboy, UV was used quite a few times on UKAEA work,usually once every five or six weeks from LPL to Wick then the cargo (which was loaded in a special container designed hopefully to withstand a crash)was taken by road to the reactor at Dounreay,on the northern coast of scotland,I rememeber the lorry(painted blue with a small UKAEA decal on it) with police outriders and car escourts going through Woolton village on its way from Risley to Speke airport, as it was known then,I think it was always a tight fit to get the container on the a/c despite the huge door.
