2011 Photo Review

Not sure if this will work - very photo intensive - will split it into several parts.

Mainly the more interesting photos of the more interesting visitors. Not that we get that many! These probably represent two thirds of the better visitors.

This was probably the last photo taken from the 1944 HMS Urley Control Tower, before demolition commenced.


And this is the 1960 VCR being cut off.

Nice to see one of the few remaining C-130Ks, XV200


Fleeting visit by the 2011 RAF display Hawk XX244, together with XX176


The sadly ill-fated XX179, prior to its loss at Bournemouth









Also lost was XX260 (leading), reduced to spares following a bird strike at Blackpool later in 2011.










The older Valley T.1s are becoming much less common, and the T.2s are now appearing in equal quantities, albeit not all that often - didn't get one at all in 2011!





Sorry about all the 'Reds', but 2011 was the first time this decade they've based here!

Many thanks for the comments, and here are another 10 that I didn't think that there would be room for.


Ist visit by brand new Blue Islands ATR


G-NRRA SIAI-Marchetti 260, owned by local businessman, prospective politician and air race champion, still wearing its original and authentic Burkino Faso Air Force colours.


Plain plane G-OJIB, arriving at 0540 am one June morning.


Another view of Super Puma G-PUMM.


University of Cambridge Chieftain (with extra survey mods) spent some time on the Island this year.


New Legacy parked southside, due to stand restrictions.


Brand new S-76, reputedly for a well-known West End department store owner.


ATP SE-LGV remains in long term storage, with occasional tlc.


And sometimes joined by an active ATP, awaiting ferry crew.


Due to low cloud conditions, the annual Tynwald Ceremony flypast was reduced to just one Hawk in 2011, XX167 from 208 Sqdn Valley.

I have to admit that the introduction of this section has been more than a benefit to members with the uploaded photographs being superb especially the interesting backdrops of stunning scenery and moody sky. The addition of cross winds adds impact to some of the shots. Best is an absence of Orange airbus and Ryanair taxis.
Let`s hope 2012 allows more interesting shots to be uploaded. Thanks ;D
