Hi there all just wondering if anyone has any info on the very neglected bulldog of the hanger opposite the tower at Barton I'm at Barton mostly every weekend over the summer with tiger moth operations an every time I go I always go check up on her an see if anyone has done anything to her but sadly no one has, just wondering if anyone knows where she was based back in her day an how she managed to find herself at the back of Bartons hanger just fading a way. It's a real shame to see such a nice aircraft to go to waste even worse when it just so happens to be your favorite aircraft just wondering if anyone could shine any light on her : ) Thanks Liam

Liam have you tried www.caa.co.uk.... GINFO that should give details of owner and current status of the aircraft. Dave

If you follow the dates, G-DAWG was formerly military, civilian registered in 2002 to the person that is still the current registered owned. There is no history of previous owners shown, as there has been only the one registered civil owner! The fact that the aircraft has now been cancelled (de-registered) late last year is an indication that the current owner, for what ever reason, has decided not to keep the aircraft in an airworthy state.
Like old cars (and probably buses too) there comes a time when overhaul and parts is greater then the value of the vehicle. Do you keep the vehicle going out of love and dam the expense, or do you let it rot while you find someone willing to pay you for the scrap value - which is usually far less than you think it is worth.

Might be worth asking a few questions in the club house or control tower. With it being hangared for so long before being moved outside it's possible the owner may have been looking at returning it to the sky. As Viscount suggests, there could be a multitude of reasons why it wasn't and you might get it at a knock down price. The delay could suggest cost, i'llness, or a lack of time but whats expensive to the owner may be reasonable to you especially if you can get the price down.

Ste, the Bulldog isn't outside it is at the back of the "Brian Harbin" hangar adjacent to the control tower. Shame really as I to have always wondered why it is sitting there for so long gathering dust. Regards Beemer.

"T Mk 1 Series – The Royal Air Force developed its own series of modifications to meet its own specific requirements for the Bulldog T Mk 1. These modifications were approved under military airworthiness regulations and are not automatically applicable to civil-registered aircraft." It looks like it would cost too much to bring it in-line with civil requirements. Regards Beemer.

WOW never knew they'd be there for soo long !! it is a real shame about the 2 of them ! the bulldog looks like she's in a good condition on the inside the panel is great condition, shame the same can't be said about the pup as she's now got bits of her crammed inside of her :/

Hi All I believe both G-DAWG & G-AZGF have had work done on them to enable safe long term storage (such as removing fuel tanks & electrical systems). With regards to them moving outside I guess if the owner pays the fees they are as entitled to hangar space as any other aircraft. As has been previously mentioned formally contacting the airport with your request about the aircraft is probably the best way to go HTH

I think G-DAWG is still owned by my Dads friend, they may be some news on her soon.

If they are up on wing spar and airframe hours there is not much you can do. Unless you are going to buy a second hand set of wings. I doubt there are many of them about.
They may have also failed maintenance inspection such as internal corrosion in the structure of the airframe.
I agree it is a shame, but nothing can last forever.

The Bulldog had its wings removed by Thursday 17-05-12, in preparation for its departure by road.
Cheers

just to help this story G-DAWG is now at BLACKPOOL where it will be brought back to flying status by some guy who is starting an aerobatic school. he already has G-AXNZ PITTS S1 and YAK 50 G-BWFM and i understand he picked up the bulldog for nothing ,will need a new spinner and prop and the engine will need servicing but looks as though it may fly again regards bob
