As it was a sunny day to-day most of the resident aircraft took to the skies. So here are the ones I photographed. G-LFSN @ 11:32hrs. G-LFSN PA-38 Tomahawk by Beemer328i, on Flickr G-ORVR @ 12:05hrs. Brilliant Beemer. Great to see the 'usual crowd' in the skies and not just sat on the apron. I'll hopefully be flying G-BNSL on Saturday afternoon. One thing, the pilot of G-RVRL looks not to be wearing a headset! Thanks for posting.

I know its not common practice but he could be using a hand mike and speaker?

Hunter, I am certain that Thorpster is well aware of that possibility. However, thank you for drawing the explanation to the attention of general readership.
One thing is certain though - he certainly was not performing a non-radio landing at LJLA!!
I can recall some years ago when passenger in a Cessna 172 having the pilot's headset connector fail in flight, a non-radio diversion decision being averted when it was found that the cabin speaker worked.

I always carry a hand held transceiver with me just in case the aircraft radio goes silent. ATC probably wouldn't be reading me 'fives' but it should get me back on the ground again. Fingers crossed for decent weather tomorrow. It looks promising.....there, I've gone and done it now!

If you enlarge the photo there appears to be a lead at the back of his left ear and also a line near his mouth. Not clear enough when made large enough to examine properly.

Happened to come across this thread by chance and its made my sunday! ;D Just to clarify, as I was me flying G-RVRL in the photo, you rightly guessed I was using an in-ear headset, specifically a QT Halo headset www.quiettechnologies.com/index_002.htmIts a brilliant headset, even though its not ANR, the foam plugs block out most of the engine noise. Thanks for the excellent photo Beemer!! ;D Kind Regards..

Welcome to the forum, Chrisat.
Thank you for clearing that little matter up. Seems logical that technology has moved from the traditional large foam sound insulated heavy headset and sweaty ears!

Thanks Brian for the enlargement which confirmed my forensic analysis of the said jpg. and welcome Karl, just shows you can not get away with anything these days, so telling the wife/GF or significant other that your working when your flying has just got a whole lot harder
