Re-iterating the question above, where exactly did the ship berth? I can see it was in the river and not in a dock, but it seemed from one of the photos to be a rather scruffy berth.
Re the discussion regarding Southampton and Liverpool. Whatever happened to the free market principle and where are the needs and wishes of the customer considered? I thought it was only here in France where the needs of the customer were low on the list of priorities.
Nice pictures from everybody. Takes me back a very long time to the days when I finished work in Edge Lane at 4-30, drove to the Pierhead, where you could park easily without paying, waited until 5pm until Janette finished work and exited the Liver Building before driving home together. In the 20 minutes wait there was time to buy The Echo, discover who was on strike that day, wander around the bus terminal;** and there was always a ship to see. (Canadian Pacific, Elder Dempster, The Belfast Ferry, British India Line etc.....)
** I remember the Corpy buses were next to the landing stages. Crossville and various red buses were parked up near the MDHB and the Customs building. RT

Ron, One of the shots shows what is left of the baggage hall floor opposite the old Riverside station and was part of the Princes Landing Stage. It does look a bit poor but the Cruise liner "terminal" is all brand new and the photograph is missleading. The rough area is where they want to build the new baggage hall and turn around facilities if they can get Southampton and others off their backs.

RT Hey Ron Do you remember ships such as the Brittanic one of the last White Star boats although owned by Cunard she retained the White Star colours and flag and the Green Goddess Cunard's MV Caronia came into Liverpool each Christmas/New Year for a refit before she went of cruising, yes we had cruise liners in the late 50s/60s in Liverpool. Happy Days JJ

Maybe one of the local council members could have a whip round out of their expenses and buy a book of the visiting Liners to Liverpool that goes back a long time before Southampton thought of cruise ships and send it recorded delivery to them.
