Has the subject of a viewing area / parking area been raised with airport management, and if so what was the response ? Often and they dont appear to be enthusiastic.

Is it worth trying to start some sort of discussion with the airport police, along the lines of other airports around the UK. Using the security aspect of spotters being extra "eyes and ears" around the airport. Even starting an LPL spotters group id scheme.
Then if there was some backing from them, they might be helpfull in talking to the airport management for a "viewing area" and keeping spotters, people seeing someone off and members of the public who just want to watch the planes all in the one place.

The concept of using spotters as "extra eyes and ears" would be valid and part of a developing trend in utilizing those that know an airport best as a useful source of information for security authorities in that such people would quickly recognize untypical events around the airport similar to a neighbourhood watch scheme. However it is because of security concerns that airport viewing areas are often frowned upon and seen as a great security risk. In the past viewing areas were utilized by terrorists (Paris Orly being the most notorious example). Nobody seems to have mentioned security concerns as being the main deterrent to providing any kind of viewing area. This doesnt mean it won't happen, but perhaps its easier for an airport authority to simply reject the concept of a viewing area from the onset and put this down to security concerns.

John The Police have already advocated that via FoLA.

If the police have advocated it, is anyone following it up? John

Look on the FoLA website under security matters there are numbers given for contacting the authorities should you see anything untoward when your around the airport or its approaches. The airport police attend FoLA meetings for any updates on the security situation.
