Typical Wirral Show, Saturday 11th the parachute display team failed to drop due to strong winds above their limit. Probably a good idea as drifting out to sea is not a good idea. The Yak display also failed to arrive no idea why, they were due at 3.15pm and the weather was superb.high cloud and blue sky and little wind by that time. Not sure if a fly past by Ince Microlights happend or not as they pass so often anyway. Sunday 12th is listed as Yaks and a display by a Jet Provost at around 2.15 I can`t wait I enquired with one of the organisers of the show about how it was each year the air display gets less and less Southport and even the Hoylake Lifeboat days get the Red Arrows without fail, plus many, many others. He told me that although they do apply they never get what they apply for The A380 last year was a suggestion from Airbus and was purely conincedental it timed with the Wirral Show and was able to do a display.

What did the "BeachBoys" sing "God only knows". Just goes to show though you can not believe in everything that you read. May be after receiving loads of complaints regarding the aforementioned, we might get to know the reason, for this from the organisers of the "Wirral Show". Very sad for those who attended the Show to be let down. Cheers. DOUGLAS12.

From the Wirral Show 2009 Website:
‘We’ve got non-stop action and entertainment in the air and on the ground right through the weekend,’ said show chairman Mike Emberton, whose volunteer team have worked tirelessly for the past 12 months to bring the event to fruition.
Sounds like a case of false pretences to me! This show just seems to get worse each year.

Wirral Show Update for Sunday 12th July. Programme stated Display by Jet Provost the parachute team of the Royal Artilliary (was concerned they would drop large guns) The Yak Team (again). I heard the JP get airborne from RAF Woodvale and give a display time of 14.10. so I watched him holding around the wind farm and Point of Ayr for 10 mins or so prior to his run in from West Kirby and along the Sea Wall which was the crowd line. His first Pass was also a Syncro Pair Fast Pass Demo as you can see One of his next passes, whilst low slow and dirty looked like he was flying into an Aviary. Overall the display was pretty tame with just the pass along the crowd lines, no real loops or anything, maybe the JP has a restriction on the display routine. The the Yaks arrived, ;D well two of them did anyway numbers 33 and 61 Using 118.45 for air to air coms for the display. The weather stayed pretty good with a little drizzle during the Yak display. but with only two aircraft the display was spirited but limited I guess. The only other thing of note both days was the suppose tethered flight of Redrow Homes Hot Air Balloon which due to wind failed either day to do anything. They had an attempt on Saturday as this pic shows to inflate it but had to stop it as it got dangerous with the high winds. I also heard on Sunday c/s Vortex 005 on 119.85 climbing to 6000 ft. didnt see it though. Hope this info is of interest.

Cheers Dave, I spoke to one of the show organisers today and enquired about the air display parts of the weekend or lack of. I was told firstly, which I knew the wind prevented the para drop Saturday. The reason the Yaks failed to show on Saturday was down to a bad weather report they had been given or got for the travel to the show from Devon. Sunday only two arrived 61 and 33 out of the four normal participants, this was due to them flying up from Devon and stopping to refuel somewhere in the Midlands, one aircraft developed a tech problem which couldn`t be fixed in time and another had a landing gear problem after a landing for fuel. Hence only two aircraft arriving at Wirral.
