Engineering colleague of mine informed me this afternoon that an announcement to all staff at First Chester and First Birkenhead depot's will be made Monday 12 Nov @ 07:20 to the effect that both depot's have been sold, likely contender is Stagecoach who purchased Wigan depot.
More when known.

This is getting interesting. Has anyone heard of any other company buying Firstbus asset's recently? Seems as if everything is going to Stagecoach. Wouldn't hold your breath on them keeping these as I feel sure the Competition Commission will step in soon, could be trouble ahead for the area's smaller operators if they don't. They also announced that Wrexham is part of the deal too. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-business-20295715

Let`s hope the new company improves the Bus service on the Wirral especially in and around the part of Wallasey where I live. I was speaking to an elderly lady this week who in her 90`s told me the service was better during the war years than today. Not a good client recomendation. She is not alone either. I am glad I don`t need to use the service or lack of just yet.

Thanks for letting me know Jordan. That will bring music to GHA's ears as Stagecoach tend to focus on commercial operations and shy away from Schools. Lets hope they keep these going and don't cancel them at short notice, thereby leaving the local authorities in the lurch.
Biggles, if the routes you are referring to are operated by First then yes, you will see a marked improvement providing the delays to those services are not being caused by unforeseen circumstances, roadworks, accidents, driver sickness, etc.

Biggles You live in a part of Wallasey that has a better service at night and on Sundays than in the daytime..... remember when the 409 used to stop near your flat and then go non stop along the prom with passengers on to then drop them off along the Warren Drive stops on its way back to Grove Road station?? the reason being the timings were cut that much that there was not enough time to drop off and pick up along the route in both directions....we think it was a missing Monty Python script!!! regards Dave

Sounds like your schedules manager pre-tests the routes using a Honda Goldwing Dave. Best not let ours know or he'll want to upgrade his 750 ;D

I am glad I don`t need to use the service or lack of just yet. Been informed, Elisabeth Tasker, Managing Director of Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire at a meeting held Monday gone, informed those present (it is reported) when asked about vehicle change at Chester and Birkenhead, that there were going to be some sad faces at other Stagecoach depot's re allocation of new vehicles to them, this was construed that allocation was forthcoming to both Chester and Birkenhead. Also, reported that there would be probable route changes along with local management, Mr Souter would not want to waste his reported investment in Wirral and Cheshire area. Dave O

As I said earlier, worrying times for the local operators. Unless Stagecoach go head to head against Arriva it's going to be the small independents that suffer. Still, at least there's Merseytravel/Cheshirebus contracts to fall back on, or is there? Even that sector is now dominated by the big boys, many with fleets larger than the once small municipals such as Lanacaster Corporation. The tendering policies of some local authorities (accept the lowest bid regardless of whether they can deliver) has seen the demise of many companies and ensured competition in this sector is extremely limited too.

Sounds confusing but thats what the merseyside arm of stagecoach trades as. Stagecoach Merseyside t/a Glenvale Transport. All buses that are being kept will be repainted and refurbished into beachball livery

Glenvale livery was the old Merseybus all cream with red skirt colours. These will be painted in the standard Stagecoach livery as NWVRT suggests, the only difference will be the name and address on the side which will be that of Glenvales. Here's a list of companies owned by Stagecoach in the UK. The list itself only covers the companies as they were when purchased by Stagecoach and doesn't include those previously acquired by those companies. i.e. Glenvale took over CMT but that company (although fully absorbed into their Gillmoss operation, is or was - according to the drivers - until recently, still a strategic business unit within Glenvale) is not included in the list. This list is taken directly from Wikipedia's article en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stagecoach_GroupUK operating companies The following is a breakdown of the Stagecoach operating divisions. The centre of each operating region is shown in parentheses. Legal company names are listed alongside the trading names for that company.
