Hi all
Just been on a 3 week holiday to Thailand and Malaysia. Whilst it was a non-spotting trip....I did have my 10x50 bins with me which allowed me to log the following. Those marked in ( ) were not read off but tied up using FR24 and libhomeradar after making notes of flight numbers.
Doha, Qatar
Sunday 2nd December - 0005hrs-0905hrs
QR A330 A7-ACM whisked me from Manchester to Doha in 6hr 44min, arriving just after midnight. Made my way to the transit terminal and whilst some aircraft park to the left and right of this terminal, most aircraft park remote across the other side of the airfield. With my bins I could read some off from under the apron lights. It remained busy through to about 0230hrs and then went quiet before picking up again around 0430hrs. It started getting light around 0630hrs and the helicopters and tins could be read off from across the other side also. From the transit terminal, you are bussed across to the remote stands, driving past the biz, helicopters, flying school and most of the parked QR airliners.

I had wanted to leave my mate in the hostel and get to the airport several hours in advance of him so I could spend some time on the Waving Galleries, but a heavy night and a late wake up meant we only got to the airport about 1hr 40min prior to departure, so following check-in, I only got to view the proceedings from the MH gates which meant missing out on trying to spot the many AirAsia which use the LCCT.

Bangkok, Thailand
Friday 21st December - 1320hrs to 2050hrs
Managed just under 3 hours on the Observation Deck and then some time whilst airside wandering the gates. Not the greatest of views from the Deck as you struggle to read off anything landing / departing on the runways / taxiways due to the terminal buildings being in the way so you are limited to what comes in to the cul-de-sac gate area, or anything that taxis across in front. Landings were on 01L and departures on 01R, so quite a lot did have to come across from the International side of the terminal across the front of the observation area to taxi out for departure. However those from the Thai / Bangkok Airways side of the terminal heading down to 01R without being logged due to them being tail on when they come in to view from the Deck. After then re-checking in for the QR flight to Doha / Manchester, an hour or two was spent wandering the gates in between grabbing something to eat and doing a bit of duty free shopping. The windows of the terminal have some sort of covering on (small dots) which doesn't make it easy to read things off, allied to the fact it goes dark around 1830hrs meant it was difficult to read a lot off. Also, when checking in for an International flight, you then don't have access (or at least I couldn't find access) to the half of the terminal which serves the domestic routes so some extra Thai and Bangkok Airways machines went begging.

Bumpy all the way down, and then on approach to KUL we entered a severe storm which resulted in us having a missed approach and eventual divert to Penang. On the ground for just over an hour, but not allowed off the aircraft.

MH 737 9M-MXJ did the honours up to Bangkok in 1hr 39min.
