Excuse my ignorance but was this ship made for the job ie:- carrying wings or has it been converted from another use? Regards Beemer.

Not 100% sure Brian but think it was originally a RoRo type ferry? Today's attempt to re-float failed, next will be 9th to 11th Feb when the spring tide should be 2m higher than today. GC

Tug Union Diamond has managed to pull her off the sandbank this morning without any trouble. Ville De Bordeaux arrived and has since departed with CdCs cargo. An expensive mistake for airbus and LD who operate the ships

The ship slipped its moorings due to the very high winds and the sea state last week, dont think it was a mistake by either Airbus or the ships operator.

LD lines will have to pay salvage costs to Smit as Union Diamond belongs to them plus Smit Donau from the mersey went down but was called back

In this case there was nothing any of the crew onboard could of done apart from have a few more mooring lines out. Engines were switched off so was running on genny power for the lighting. Usual Practice while Docked at Mostyn
