Bob case in point - look at your posting re "MENORCA", then you ,have posted another one there today - adding a sentence to your last. You could (should) have just edited your existing post to cover the extra comment....simples Anyway, I'm now off line, but please bear in mind in future. Cheers, Dave

David, To clear up a few points- I would like to apologise via this forum to the people who have placed replies on this item. Since I have been a member of this forum I have tried to give light hearted replies to some items. I have always taken the attitude of looking after the majority and not the minority. Trying wherever possible tp provide information for other people on this forum which I believe totals over 500. Today, I think the problems have occured, which may have upset a few members of this forum, whereby I have asked "what runway they are landing on this morning is it 09" The reason for this request to clear things up, was because I normally have my radio on, I would know what runway" However my wife was having a lie in having been up at 05:45 each day this week, therefore Radio switched off. The reply came back from Beemer NO!!!! I replied 27 it is then, and carried on my way. I was not taking the mickey, although I thought at the time, Beemer was annoyed. I never thought anymore about it until I switched on my computer tonight and was surprised to see a number of my entries had been removed. I have noticed over the months similar conversations and I realise what a hard job you have David as the administrator. So again can I apologise to the members who have bothered to complain and whom I may have offended, and I will try wherever possible to be careful with my replies in future. This is a great forum and is a great way of exchanging information, although the information is not always forthcoming. Anyway David keep up the good work. Happy Days- Living the Dream Bob

Dave,
I have tried to tow the line, but what you have done today has ruined in my mind this forum.
It seems that the minority rule the majority and you listen to the minority.
Quote- Dave, do us all a favour and edit his post count to infinity, then I might actually get to read a thread that contains some useful information.-Cloudwarrior
Sorry but I am completly disallusioned. In any case the NWAN Forum Masonic lodge should be happy now, they can rule as they please.
I have tried but once you upset the rulers of this website you are on a loser. I made 7 requests for tie ups for sightings this last week and got no reply. I even asked as to whether the Hawker was still in last night got no reply. Although certain members had a discussion around my request.
Complete waste of time- that last request I made yesterday I deleted .
Bob ;D

I think that this forum, sometimes, appears to be kept between a few people. Its a shame as I have been with this forum and dont post much but even some aknowledgement would be nice!!! Rant over, Paul

Interesting how the most prolific poster on the forum reckons he is a minority. Surely (despite the zeroed counter), being the second most numerous poster places him as a leader of the gang, not a victim.
I've just half-heartedly tried to find a comparible rail enthusiast forum on the web - I'm sure they are there, but I'm not too worried. I simply wanted to see if they had contributors posting multiple posts of aeroplane photographs! Although, actually inclusion of rail photos here doesn't concern me - I'll look at and appreciate any good transport photo.
However, the above comments are not the reason for this particular post. Other forums I use have lists of rules, sometimes to the extent of dominating the top ofeach index page. One of the factors I like about this forum (apart from its local base) is that it is not full of petty regulations, the individual postees making themselves responsible for not introducing anarchy by dominating every thread with trite comment.
Ignoring any rules/regulation there may or may not be, for any forum my personal "rule of thumb" for a good post by myself or others:
** It provides 'new' information likely to be of interest to more than one forum member. The information could be current, historical, written or pictorial, fresh thread information or answer to an earlier post.
** It asks a useful and relevant question, any answer being of interest to more than just the postee ?
** It corrects an error in another postee's post and in the process adds useful info, without 'nit picking'.
In my opinion a poor post is one which:
** Solely directs comment to one member. Yes there is a place for praise, but when mixed with comment, further info etc. The PM is there for 'thank you' or 'liked that photo' comment.
** Is something that could be in a post made ten minutes earlier by the same member. The only possible reason for 'G-AXYZ is over the South Coast' - new post - 'G-AXYZ is now at 10,000 feet - new post - 'G-AXYZ has just called up Approach' - new post - 'G-AXYZ is over the Bridge now' - new post - 'G-AXYZ is parking on stand 54', is to increase the post count. Put into a single post using the 'modify' button is more interesting to me, as ALL the info is there to view at one glance.
** In a similar vein, I hate a post correcting an earlier post by the same person. Why not simply get rid of the error using 'modify'? Makes more sense to me that pointing out to everyone you got it wrong the first time!
** A post that guesses the answer to a question, with no knowledge of wether or not it is the accurate answer. If I don't know the full answer (yes, that does happen), my rule of thumb is to wait 24 hours to see if the full answer is known, and only then offer my partial answer, and if speculation I'll state that clearly.
** A post without use of Capital letters, punctuation or any attempt to use standard spellings. I know some use mobile phones to enter 'urgent information' posts - fair enough, it is the 'serial offenders' (they know who they are) who lazilly ignore the rules of standard written communication, that annoy me!
I post to share the info I have (agreed some of my recent posts have been historical, obscure and of minority interest), not to recieve praise and ego preening for what I have done. I know Beemer and others feel the same way about their photo posts. When individual praise is due, I use a PM.
In general terms, do post, but please each with a greater proportion of 'hard' information rather than trite 'throw-away' comment. In my opinon every post should say something new and of interest to as many guests/members as possible.
To me this is common sense, not 'bully boy' tactics, or 'gang' domination. Total post count is irrelevant to me, the passing on of information being my main drive. That does not mean absolutely every post of mine follows my own rules, but the vast majority do!
Again, this is a post of personal opinion - it is not aimed at any one person - it is simply a statement of what I feel make a good (or poor) post, and the 'yard-stick' that I judge the posts of others by.
Don't overlook that one of the great strengths of this forum is that genuine questions get answered quickly and in detail - providing that an answer is possible! In the past 24 hours just look at the speed (under 12 hours) for a question about Boeing 777 visits to Liverpool to be answered in detail (although one of the replies, as typed, goes into my category of an unhelpful, confusing, poor post). Other vital strengths are the local base and the sheer variety of subjects covered in any 24 hour period!

Bob. People can only reply to posts if they know the answer. The majority simply fail to respond because they dont know.
Paul. I personally post photos for other people to enjoy, I dont ask for or expect any comments.

Cloudwarrior You lost your street cred with me when you did at one foul swoop my legs and got me zeroed. Seemed that Dave and his mates were just waiting for an excuse. God forbid anyone breaking the inner circle. This website reminds me a bit of the Air Britain (Merseyside) coach trips of the 1980/90's when you also felt like an outsider. Anyway GFY Bob Oh by the way thats two posts I've done on this subject you better go and tell teacher. ;D

Bob. I had no idea I had street cred Its not the quantity of posts I object to, its the quality. Just have a read of them. They dont actually tell anybody anything. You have to admit that all of a sudden you became the most prolific poster, and when the 'view most recent posts' facility was set to '10', half of it was from you. I had to ask myself, why? The only answer I (and others) could see was an obvious ploy to rack up your post count. I repeat, I couldnt care less how many messages you post, just post something of interest. Now, regarding Beemers tally. Have a read of his posts. They're actually telling us information or sharing photographs. And if Viscount wants to share info from other scources, then great. I, like many others, find them a fascinating glimpse into other peoples memories of our hobby. And I think you'll find that Dave is his own man who runs a tidy ship and isnt influenced by the minority. Oh, and I actually asked for your post count to be increased to infinity, not decreased to zero. Right, I'm off for a brew with other members of the inner circle, while we discuss plans to infiltrate other forums. Mostly Happy Days - Living in the real world Darren

One of the great things about a forum is that everyone, when then join is hidden behind the anominity of a user-name. They could be a 14 year-old, or a world expert in the field. Any 'past history' of friendships or grievences are null and void.
It is the quality of the information or requests in posts that distinuish between the time waster, keen amateur, the really knowledgeable and those with access to useful advance info. Bob, a year ago in your infrequent posts, I viewed the information provided with great respect as you clearly travelled much, knew the subject matter you were posting, and it was information I could not see anywhere else. In the past 4 - 5 months the pace of your posting increased exponentially and the proportion of intelligent, readable, interesting posts diminished. Around last Christmas, there would be 10-12 new posts on the forum daily in total, a week ago you alone posted over 15 on several days. Your input is valued by me, and I'm sure by others, but only when posts contain something interesting and new to read.
Yes, I do get some of my material from books - but always from sources inaccessible to the greater majority, not the most recent enthusiast magazine or wiped from another web-site. Why should I re-compose what others have written, in order to answer a question, when the original is far more interesting than I could ever produce (eg Paris Report 1962)? I am meticulous in quoting a source and giving due credit and in keeping the number of posts down whenever possible.
Where is all this leading... I've lost trace of my argument. So I'll conclude.
With a number of new, and very welcome postees, with this site expanding, which it great, it becomes ever more important that we, the 'old hands', with many posts behind us, set an example by making every post informative with content that is readable.

Bob,
"Didn't see any Freightliners today" was really the final straw. You have been asked to THINK before you post irrelevant messages. I took it upon myself to zero your numbers, just in case you were on a crusade to beat everyone else - seems like you were. Any more pointless posts and I will have to consider a ban.
BTW - there is NO "Inner Circle" (if there is then I'm not in it!) - I don't even personally know many of our best contributors here and I set this Forum up originally by myself with no prompting or committee. The main NWAN website costs me around £120 a year to keep going - there is no one else behind the scenes with any agenda. I'm not even particularly keen on modern-day aviation, so God knows why I keep all this going anymore (except for the history section!).
There will be no more comment on this subject from me (PM's or otherwise), I have just got back from holiday and have a mountain of more important stuff to do... end of story.
(PS as a gesture of goodwill and in the hope that you will take heed, I have restored the extra 918 posts to the 12 you had already made since I zeroed it yesterday!!)
