A very interesting in-sight into airport operations. Isn't it just bad luck that number 2 is out of service when you need it? I would be interested to know, whether or not the machines which diverted to Liverpool eventually took off with their passegers to Manchester, or were the passengers bussed, and/or did new passengers come to Liverpool for their departues? Ron, the usual procedure in such cases, where it's known that there won't be a major delay is for a 'splash and dash' ie, they keep the pax on board, top up with fuel and re-file the flight plan so that they can get a slot asap after the airport re-opens. As a slight aside, there was a recurring problem in T3 last year with minor fires in one of the kitchens and there was a concern that if the A380 was in the circuit at the time it would have to hold because there would be inadequate fire cover.
