Important news for those living mainly in the Wigan and Bolton areas. Maytree Travel have suspend all of it's services as of today. As well as it's own, Maytree operated 40 services on behalf of Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM). Although TfGM are going to try to cove these by next week they are facing a daunting task, one that could well be verging on the impossible.
The services affected are:
Daytime services 31, 95, 96, 495, 512/3, 516, 525, 526, 527, 544, 551, 553, 559, 570, 597, 680, and 714. Evening services 507, 510, 519, 534, 536, 538/9, 561/2, 571/2, 575/6, 583, 584, 597, 612, 622, 715 and Sunday services 273, 534, 538/9, 576, 583, 584, 597, 622 and 715. (taken from TfGM's website)

Glad to hear some of the former employees have gained work with other companies. Other operators to benefit from Maytree's demise are Arriva, South Lancs Travel, Rossendale Transport, Stotts and Wigan buses.
Whats worrying about this is that the company was bought out by Manchester Community Transport (MCT) just 4 weeks before it collapsed. Fortunately, they kept it as a separate entity so MCT continue to trade for now.
The reason for it's collapse is that the insurance rates not only increased threefold but a change in cover imposed by their insurers meant they would be breaching the terms of their contract with Transport for Greater Manchester.
Also nice to see First benefiting as hard times continue to hit them. They have just sold all of their interests in London buses (eight garages in total) to Singapore, and Australian owned operators. Other than Stagecoach, does anyone know of any other British operator still running buses in our capital city?

Thanks Jordan. Looks like it's about a 50/50 split at the moment. Good to see Blue Triangle are still holding in there. Not sure if you know but the very first SLF double decker to grace the streets of Liverpool (4 years before Arriva's) was purchased by them when Liverpool Motor Services (LMS) went belly-up due to excessively high insurance rates following a coach crash in the Lake District.
LMS was owned by Dave Forrest (you may know him, through his interest in preservation). By a strange quirk of fate, Dave's first bus company was also called Blue Triangle (acquired by MTL and now part of Arriva) but had no connections whatsoever with the Blue Triangle operating in London.

Abellio who of course are Duch Sorry for the second post but just had a thought. Isn't this the company who are currently running Merseyrail? If so, do you think they will change the notices inside the trains to read 'No cloggs on seats'. ;D

Certainly is Ste and also the owner of them lovely red buses that were round liverpool last year. Gave Selwyns nightmares especially the fitters. Good old MR Forrest, Heard all about his operations, last working for HTL but by all accounts his employment as been terminated shall we say. He was at Kirkby last weekend with John Cherry of Aintree Coachlines/Helms of Eastham Fame and also NWVRT Trustee. JPT of Manchester were the last people to own that paticular bus. www.flickr.com/photos/selmerorselnec/8412567248/in/photostream/ Private Plate on it now
