Whilst checking out what I could do with my Avios formally Airmiles, I found out that to go Glasgow to Heathrow in November at the following costs : -
9000 Avios plus a payment of £99.12 8100 Avios plus a payment of £109.12
or for those who dont have many Avios
4500 Avios plus a payment of £149.12
I checked the BA web site and the same flights booked paying full price was £109.12!!
I can only conclude that Avios is a total waste of time and effort. To spend 4500 reward points and £40.00 over the cost of paying the full price through the airline is a non starter!!!!!
Its off to Tesco's to use my club card reward vouchers !!!

I feel exactly the same as you Cityflyer. I have been saving for years and collecting when filling the works vans and cars with diesel and I havn't got enough to fly from LPL to MAN (if you could). I don't bother now and fill with fuel where ever. Regards Beemer.

Maybe with that evidence grass them up to the guy on Tv who runs Money Market lol. The Daily Mail runs a similar voucher scheme not worth participating in when you look at the token values and numbers needed.

I said Adios to Avios months ago. Useless availabilty, only interested in Heathrow, BA only and a call centre that isnt arsed. I now shop at Sainsburys and collect Nectar points on other things aswell. Adios are a waste if money and not worth the loyalty we give the 'loyalty' programme.

I once collected thousands of Airmiles vouchers and on attempting to redeem them was advised they were not valid as I am not an "independent trader". The rules,sub-rules,sub-paragraphs,etc. rendered this entire scheme a massive fraud from the beginning.

Avios appear to be immune from complaints, I have complained numerous times to Watchdog, Simon Calder, the company itself etc etc....... Nothing seems to be done about them.

I will add my voice to those above. As someone who has flown with BA since long before Air Miles were introduced, (never mind these idiot avios), I did collect them, and yes, to be fair, I had a couple of decent 'free' flights with them. The whole system has now changed and frankly unless you're some sort of celeb who flies everywhere First (in which case you don't need them anyway), you'll never collect enough to make them worthwhile. By contrast, I have been flying with KLM for about 15 years now. About 5 years ago, they gave me a 'Platinum For Life' card, and I frequently get upgraded (though I never ask), so guess who gets my business now?

I am sat on about 80000 Avios points (how far can I go ?!!). Think I am unlikely to use them. Also think I need to switch to taking my Club Card points as coupons, at least I can spend them in the store.
Have to say I did have some good flights out of Air Miles. First trip to Paris Air Show in 91 was paid for that way, stayed at a friend's flat in Paris so was a "good value" trip. Did not have too much spare cash at the time as I had just set up in business on my own.

Might be enough to get you from Glasgow to Barra (just the one way though!) ;D
