Nice shot mate. Arklow Fern will most probably be heading to Cargills to load and WD Mersey will be carrying out daily dredging of the canal bed

My brother in law is a Pilot on this, and was telling me last week how busy it has and is getting due to several factors, one being the container terminal, also due to the poor harvest this year Wheat is being imported into Seaforth CT from France and then moved from there and into the canal. A wine company located on the canal is using shipping containers to bring wine into the area and as a result of not using road haulage is saving over £1m a year in costs. Small shuttle ships moving between Seaforth and the canal are so busy and will be operating 12 months are now needing working hours restrictions being put into operation on pilots and crews.

Biggles
Thank's for the info on the canal, glad to see it's going to get quite busy.I can remember years ago as a little lad watching the large ship's going passed Runcorn-Widnes Bridge and wondering were they were going. Might even see more on the canal on my journey to Barton.

In my younger day's spent many an hour stuck in traffic due to a bridge being open on the way back from a day out with my Mum and Dad .I use to get out of the car and go and see what was going on and getting stuck on the Transporter Bridge was a regular thing .

Very interesting thread. I watched a program recently on the construction of the Panama Canal and there was quite a bit about the construction of the Manchester ship Canal. Apparently several of the techniques used were copied, enhanced and improved for Panama.
By the way having written "program" I wonder if I should really be writing "programme" as the former seems to have taken over as accepted. Comments!

Program is the American way of spelling it. These days it seems we have to follow their lead, perhaps the language title should be changed from English to American!! They can't count either, because a billion is one million million, not one thousand million as seems to be excepted these days. (Latin bi means two (as in bicycle) as I have been taught).By the way, the English thousand million is a milliard.
